Diana Herke, 1 Jan 1943 – 22 May 2024. It is with sorrow that we announce that Diana Herke died suddenly and unexpectedly on 22 May 2024 at home in Maidenhead where she had lived since 1980. Diana is survived by her husband Peter of 58 years, two children Vivienne, Kevin and five grandchildren. Diana was born in Exeter, her mother introduced her to tennis in early life and actively supported her at many junior tennis tournaments as a teenager in the West Country. In 1961 she passed the Level 1 coaching exam at Bisham, met her husband at Bracknell LTC in 1963 and they married 3 years later. In 1970 she joined Maidenhead Lawn Tennis Club and was a very active player and coach for 50+ years. Diana was also an active swimmer at the Holiday Inn for 25 years where she made many friends. Cultivating friendships wherever she lived and being a loyal, caring and thoughtful friend were hallmarks of her life. Diana was also a keen reader, theatre goer and supporter of the Arts. Norden Farm Arts Centre doubled as her coffee shop. A celebration of life will be held, those with a personal connection to Diana should contact the family.
