Eve Systems today announced that its Matter-enabled wall-in Eve Energy Outlet is available for purchase both from the Eve Store and from Amazon.

Announced back in December, the Eve Energy Outlet is able to replace any existing outlet in a single or multi-gang installation. It connects to a smart home setup using Thread, and has Matter integration.

There are two receptacles that can be controlled individually, and it offers advanced energy monitoring functionality so users can see how much energy devices are consuming. Energy monitoring is supported in the Eve app.

The Eve Energy Outlet is able to integrate with other HomeKit products thanks to Matter, so it can be used with automations and can be controlled through the Home app and through Siri.

The Eve Energy Outlet is priced at $50.

Important before you buy: this requires a neutral wire
It's an outlet, not a switch. Of course it requires a neutral wire, otherwise it wouldn't power anything.

I have a love hate relationship with Eve. Some of their devices are amazing (the smart plug, room monitor) and some are awful (cameras, aqua, weather monitor). Their customer service has been pretty good; but I don’t know if I want to take a chance on an installed device like an outlet. I’d rather just use a smart plug. They are cheaper too.

Looks like this only supports thread, not Wi-Fi. Also, the buttons look a little small to manually push.

Not familiar with USA electrics, but how could it NOT require a neutral wire? And, for that matter from a UK perspective, an earth/ground wire?

For $50.00 - not a bad price!
If it also had both a USB Type-A and USB Type-C port, I'd replace all of my outlets with it.

I recently replaced all of my outlets with new ones that have (2) USB Type-A ports and a (1) Type-C port, in addition to (2) 110v receptacles; but having smart switch capabilities at for the 110v receptacles would've been nice.

There are some old homes in US without neutral wire, don't ask me how it works.
No. That can't be true for outlets. Some switch boxes are wired with no neutral in the box. But every outlet needs to have BOTH the left and right slots connected. (and in many cases a ground too.). In the US the wider slot is neutral and the smaller one is line. In Europe they are both round. But always, outlets need at least two conductors
