This is where Apple's 8gb RAM for all M3 models unless you buy BTO really bites as you're basically dependent on Apple to give discounts which Tim Mcscrooge never gives.

In the bigger scheme of things the iMac should have better base specs. With MacBooks when you start considering higher specs you find yourself considering the next model up such as a more powerful MacBook Pro over a BTO MacBook Air. But the current iMac doesn’t have that option—there is no more powerful AIO model anymore.

I think the iMac should have 512GB SSD as standard. You could have done what the new M3 MacBook Pro 14 does and start with 8/512. But ideally it should be 12/512 as base configuration.

And I’m not sure I would have gone with three tiers, but rather two tiers might make more sense.

- 8/512
- 16/1TB

…and then you can BTO from there. 256 is indeed manageable for a lot of people, but at the iMac’s price point it’s simply absurd to have such low storage as standard.

And I say this even as a fan of the iMac.

The vast majority of these machines are going to end up on office receptionists desks, retail design galleries, or home kitchens/dens, where they will be used with calendar apps or as Safari terminals. A bigger screen and more RAM simply isn't needed for those situations.

Not seeing that price on amazon...

I'm wondering if MR posts fake discounts so that everyone clicks on their affiliate links. Since Amazon's affiliate program allows for 30-day cookies, if we end up buying anything on Amazon within that 30-day window, MR will get that commission.

Then MR can turn around and be like "*Update* Discount has expired.*"
