When to Expect the Next iMac to Launch

Apple released the 24-inch iMac in April 2021 with the M1 chip and an ultra-thin design available in seven colors, including green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver. This is currently the only iMac in Apple's lineup, as the Intel-based 27-inch iMac and iMac Pro models were both discontinued over the past few years.

Hello Tim Cook iMac
In his Power On newsletter last week, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reiterated that Apple has no plans to release an iMac with the M2 chip and will instead wait to update the computer with the M3 chip, which the company has yet to announce. Gurman expects the M3 chip to have similar CPU and GPU core counts as the M2 chip, but it is expected to use TSMC's 3nm process for significant performance and power efficiency improvements. All existing Apple silicon chips for Macs are manufactured based on TSMC's 5nm process.

Gurman expects the next iMac to launch by early 2024, and believes the computer will have a similar design as the current model, which starts at $1,299. This means the iMac will likely go around three years between hardware updates.

Other Macs expected to be updated with the M3 chip in the future include the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, and Mac mini.

Not really good enough, Apple.
iMac should be kept fresh and offered in at least two sizes.

Correct, you will. Mac Studio + Apple Studio Display is the bigger iMac option.
It is the iMac Pro option.

The regular iMac 27" was a great value starting at $1799 and discounted for less. While the 24" iMac is a decent value, people who had a 27" 5K really don't want to downsize to 24" or to say a larger 4K display. With the Apple Studio Display (which is excellent) at $1599 adding even a base Mac mini at $599 makes it much more expensive. The other wrinkle is that the 27" iMac you could very easily and inexpensively upgrade the RAM, with the mini you can't do that so that even adds more to the price difference if you need more than 8GB.

I have to confess... These iMac colors really grew on me.

I was hoping Apple would release these iMacs between August 15th - which would be the 25 year anniversary of when the iMac was first released - and the end of the year. Sooner the better.

As many others are likely to say... Come on Apple give us a 27" iMac...

24" was a mistake, if they had to pick one it should have been 27". If you want a bargain you could buy a mac mini and whatever monitor you want.
