Should I be worried about Amazon selling the production AirPods that don’t meet quality standards? Or is that even a thing?
There are no "second tier" AirPods out there that are made by Apple. What you could get is a knock-off, though. That's a thing.

Costco has them for this price too. Picked up a set; I like them quite a bit better than AirPods 2nd and 3rd gen.

Until it's sold (and shipped) by Amazon.com, it's good and no worries.
I used to believe this, until I purchased an Apple Lightning Cable directly from amazon.com and it arrived with slightly different plug housing dimension and my iPhone started saying the cable was not a compatible cable. This happened twice.

All those products often get pooled together by bar code, regardless of whether they come from the brands themselves or other distributors. That way, Amazon can grab whichever product that’s ordered at the nearest warehouse to the customer.

That means even if you buy something that is technically sold by Amazon under the brand’s name, you might end up with a product supplied by a third-party merchant, which may or may not be the real thing.
