Deals: Apple TV 4K Drops to $129.99 on Amazon ($49 Off)

Amazon is discounting the 32GB Apple TV 4K to $129.99 this week, down from $179.00. We saw an all-time low price (around $109) on the Apple TV 4K earlier in July during Prime Day, but since that event ended this is the best deal we've tracked on the 2021 Apple TV 4K.

We got the Apple TV 4K 32 GB 2 weeks ago and I'm glad we did. We had been using the 3rd generation Apple TV connected to a 1080p TV since 2014. We mainly stream content using home sharing from a Mac mini, but also stream from Amazon prime video occasionally. Overall, the new Apple TV 4K is better in pretty much all aspects vs the Apple TV (3rd gen). I was originally hung-up on the fact that we don't actually have a 4K (2160p) TV to connect this to, but it works very well as a drop-in replacement in spite of the fact that we are only using it to output at 1080p.

* More of the metadata on home sharing content displays. Most notably: shows the year for movies. Also, there is the ability to read the whole description on movies where the old Apple TV truncates the descriptions.
* Remote control has volume buttons which serve to adjust the volume on the TV (this eliminates the need to use the TV remote at all while watching movies)
* Default screensavers look amazing. We were probably just getting tired of the old screensavers on the old Apple TV, but these new screensavers are actually a bunch of beautiful slow moving videos
* The new remote wheel area is actually touch sensitive. I have to learn to stop fiddling with the remote while watching a movie as this causes the content to skip around.
* Gigabit Ethernet on the new vs 100 Mbit Ethernet on the old Apple TV. Our outgoing connection to the ISPs are only 100 Mbit, so there's no difference when streaming from the internet, but videos load noticeably faster over home sharing.
* New Wifi protocol support 802.11ax "Wifi 6" (doesn't apply since we use Ethernet)
* Ability to load apps. We are just scratching the surface here initially, but this could turn out to be a very useful feature in the future. We currently have the Epic app (kids books subscription).
* Supports up to 4K resolution. We do not have any plans on replacing our 1080p TV and we don't have any 4K content in our library, but if we want to pursue upgrading in the future, the Apple TV will be ready.
* Overall, the UI is more responsive

Was available for slightly lower price a couple of weeks back. This is still a good price though.

Tempting, but my ps5 actually works really well as a streamer for my purposes (just use Netflix and Apple TV app mostly). Also don't really like the Apple remote. Would like native 24 hz output but not a huge deal.
It’s so strange that this is the ONLY device Apple makes with native 24 hz output!

Finally grabbed one myself on Prime Day! And I agree, between Amazon’s discounts and Apple’s gift card deal, it’s pretty clear a new model is coming soon.
