The 27-inch iMac Could Be Sticking Around – But Not in the Way You Expect
After over a year of rumors about a larger, high-end iMac model with Apple silicon, it seems that the 27-inch iMac may not be disappearing in the way that some observers expected.

Earlier this year, the reliable leaker known as "L0vetodream" said that the rumored high-end iMac model set to replace the current 27-inch model will feature a larger display.
Apple already gave the entry-level iMac a reasonable screen size increase this year, replacing the Intel 21.5-inch iMac with the M1 24-inch iMac, which seemed to suggest that a similar increase in display size would occur for the next version of the high-end iMac.
Now, rumors are suggesting that the high-end iMac will retain its 27-inch display, with no significant screen size increase at all. Display analyst Ross Young, who often reveals supply chain information that provides insights into Apple's plans, recently explained that the next-generation iMac will have a 27-inch mini-LED display with ProMotion technology for a variable refresh rate up to 120Hz.
This suggests that the earlier rumors indicating the high-end iMac would be getting a bigger display were mistaken. So while the new iMac will be getting a major redesign and a powerful Apple silicon SoC, it will purportedly stick with the 27-inch size it has had since 2012.
The high-end machine is expected to feature a similar design to the M1 iMac, more ports including an SDXC card slot, and options for the the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips. The new 27-inch iMac could also potentially be called the "iMac Pro" to differentiate it from the 24-inch iMac. See our detailed 2022 iMac rumor guide for more information on what to expect.
