Why? The full size is cheaper
The $329 iPad has an older A10 processor, and it’s screen is a very old design lacking TrueTone, anti-glare lamination, and P3 wide gamut color. It’s also stuck with an old 1.2MP front camera, which is pretty poor for FaceTime or Zoom.

Why? The full size is cheaper
The mini actually has the same internals as the iPad Air, with the same screen technology. It's more of an iPad Air Mini.

The base iPad uses a two generation older processor with an older style screen.
