This week, school boards across Ontario began purchasing and distributing iPads pre-equipped with free Rogers LTE wireless data to students who do not have either the technology or the internet they need to access at-home learning. To date, over 21,000 iPads are being sent to the homes of families in need, according to the Ontario government.

Apple is providing ongoing support and resources in English and French to teachers, parents, and students to support at-home learning, including videos, apps, and e-books to help teachers with lesson planning, creative activities that kids and families can do on the iPad, and free one-to-one virtual coaching by Apple Professional Learning Specialists.

The free Rogers wireless data will be available until the end of June.

(Thanks, Jacob!)

I'm an Ontario high school teacher currently delivering instruction online from home, like everyone else. Let me tell you, our provincial government has not been a friend to public education for the most part, but this is something at least.

First as a fellow citizen from Toronto, Thank you for teaching our children the knowledge needed to succeed while us parents grind at work to provide a home, roof and food for them. Thank you for providing security to children while at school, and mentoring them in-between classes and taking note on their choices of peers and relaying to parents if consideration is needed. There is a LOT more respect to teachers that is needed, especially here in Ontario the last 8yrs since Ontario government has reduced school yard space, apparatus', pools, and packing classes tighter than a sardine class, rolling more pressure onto teachers after classes where teachers have more homework, unpaid, than university students! So ... thank you!

This is an unprecedented move by both Apple and Robbers (the greedy cellular network):

To date, over 21,000 will be sent to the homes of families in need. The free Rogers wireless data will be available until the end of June.

Also, Apple is providing videos, apps and books to help teachers build engaging lessons for students at home, along with fun and creative activities that kids and families can do with the built-in features of the iPad device. * In addition, Rogers is allowing eligible households ('http://about.rogers.com/stories/we-are-connecting-families/') to sign up for high-speed Internet with no overage fees for $9.99 monthly.

Between Canada and the USA ...

There are 3 locations named Toronto (Canada has one)
There are 4 locations named Ontario (Canada has one)

Toronto is a city within Ontario, a province in Canada. Don't worry Cook pretty much has the keys to California on another news forum mentioned today on the front page :D

This is a good thing.

My nieces have iPads (that their parents got with an eye towards eventual school use, but intending mostly for use on long trips) - these are getting a workout now. The older one is doing all sorts of schoolwork, writing assignments, hangouts, and zoom group meetings with her class. I hear the school district got a lot of Chromebooks for students who didn't already have a device of their own, but the iPads are working out quite well.
