A screenshot of the Windows version of the app reveals that it will look rather similar to both Skype and Apple's own Messages app on Mac. Facebook said Messenger Desktop will have many of the same features as the mobile version of the app, including support for group video calls and collaboration.

Facebook is expected to unveil the desktop app alongside several other new Messenger features at its F8 keynote today at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time.

Update: Facebook's blog post has been republished after Messenger Desktop was unveiled at F8 as expected.

This is one app I'll be avoiding on the Mac like the plague. Oh wait, this is the plague itself just disguised.

this apple contradicting themselves, why apple is adding FB to mac os after removing FB from the share option feature,
Apple is not doing anything. Facebook is releasing an application for macOS.

well i hope i get the option to remove it, because this is one app that i don’t like running in the background
You have to install this, so you certainly can remove it. It will not run in the background unless you launch it.

even if i don’t have any FB account or don’t even run the app, but you don’t know what the app might be doing, spying or collection in the back ground, sorry FB but you builded this bad reputation and i personally don’t lime you or trust you, i’ll be blocking this app with little snitch or similar
If you do not trust them, do not download their app and install it. Totally your choice.

tim talked about security and privacy but now they doing this, i wonder what has changed in the last few months, absolutely nothing, things didn’t got any better, things got worse but tim wants to includes this. useless app on mac os, this is proof that tim has lost it,he don’t even know what he wants or where he is going
This is a third party app, that you would have to go and download. What does this have to do with Tim Cook?
