Apple today released a new version of the iTunes 12 beta for both developers and OS X Yosemite beta testers, following yesterday's iOS 8 Golden Master release. Yesterday, users reported having difficulties installing the iOS 8 GM from Yosemite with the iTunes 12 beta, and this update may fix the issue.

First introduced in July, iTunes 12 includes an "elegant new design" that also includes support for several iOS 8/Yosemite features including Family Sharing.

iTunes 12 also includes improved playlists, a redesigned Info Window, and a new icon. iTunes 12 and OS X Yosemite remain in a beta testing phase, with a public release for the software expected this fall, possibly in October.

iTunes is the biggest steaming pile ever. Thank god there are decent media players like JRiver to save the day. I do wish they just hired in someone who can make iTunes good again. Matching is an endless issue if you have anything but Apple's own AAC files in your library or anything higher bitrate. If I could change one thing about iTunes to help it would be to add a popout for more detailed progress bar during matching, and ipod or genius sync

Never got all the iTunes hate. Every other player I've tried is complete trash aesthetically and doesn't have a sliver of the features iTunes has. Things like choosing when certain tracks end is essential.

I bricked my iPhone so bad yesterday trying to update to the 8 GM that I needed to go to the Apple store for a fix. I even tried to AppZap iTunes 12 and two other computers and had no luck.

Anyone know if I can safely try again?

:apple:

It didn't brick your phone. You just needed to use RecBoot to get yourself out of DFU mode (if your phone was stuck on the Lightning cable icon like mine was). Took 3 seconds.

Does anyone know if there's an option anywhere to hide recently added albums? Can't find a way to get rid of it and it doesn't go away after a period of time as far as I can tell

I believe this is what you are looking for:

The thing is we all want a BETTER iTunes, but we can never agree upon just WHAT that is. Cull some features and you absolutely murder it for some.

For me, as a DJ with way over 60,000 tunes I only want it to stay as it is with its amazing library management features and just not beach ball every time I update some ID3 tags.

Your mileage may vary.

I hope Yosemite is not required to sync iOS 8 when released. None of my desktops can run 10.10.
If so I'll have to fire up parallels to sync via Windows XP for iOS 8. :(

What about all the people next week who will be using Mavericks to update and setup iOS 8? Yosemite won't be out for another month....
