djayAlgoriddim has released the latest version of its well-regarded DJing software djay for Mac. The software allows DJ's, both amateur and professional, to perform and record music sessions via a number of unique and easy-to-use features.

Perhaps the largest new feature in version 4 is Harmonic Match. Djay analyzes the entire iTunes Library detecting musical key for each song, allowing the software to match up songs of the same key for seamless transitions.

Djay also includes a number of real-time audio effects, fully analyzed waveforms, auto-syncing to match BPM between songs, iCloud integration for sharing cue points and other metadata between Djay for Mac, iPad, or iPhone, and supports a number of third-party accessories.

djay for Mac continues to build upon algoriddim's philosophy of creating accessible DJ tools for all users. Pros and beginners alike will find new features, such as Harmonic Match™ and enhanced audio FX, significantly improve the experience of mixing music on the Mac. With the introduction of the new visual key match wheel, djay automatically registers a song’s key and matches it to songs of the same key within an iTunes music library. This first-of-its-kind integration of harmonic mixing capabilities enables easy mashups that are pitch-perfect.

Djay for Mac is normally $49.99, but is on sale on the Mac App Store for $19.99 for a limited time. [Direct Link]

Exactly what would make this a "pro" app? An exorbitant price? Please, clue me in.

Even at full price, it isn't "exorbitant"

This is FCPX all over again, with faux pros chiming in to tell everyone how something that does everything most pros do isn't worth anything.

Get off your high horse, 99% of dj's just turn volume knobs and pump their fist. It's not rocket science. This app can get you mixing and having fun at an affordable price and is far from under-featured. Deadmau5 isn't going to use it to make his next album, but that doesnt mean its bad.

I'm a musician and i mess around with the djay apps for ios which are TONS of fun and remarkably deep and capable. Sure, I'm not a professional DJ, but I have fun. I've shared mixes with people who have been very impressed. When's the last time you were at a club or bar with someone dj'ing that couldn't have just used this app to do the same thing?

Phaser, gate, echo, flanger, bit crusher, cue points, scratching, rhythm and melody matching. What else do you need to get a party started?

People are such elitists.

Face it guys, NO-ONE(besides 2 or 3 geeks ) at the party cares if you are using a "pro app" or not. People just want to have a good time, they couldn't care less about dj nerd wars about whats "pro".

ok all just chill... lets just say its prosumer??? like fcpx

I dj at weddings, bars, and college parties (still in college). I use serato itch mainly but i also own this dj app for iPad and it is a blast! I think for $20 this is a great way for kids who want to try DJing at a party a shot... people are right it has all u need. Honestly if this thing could have multiple mic inputs and 4 decks and be less than $200 pro users would buy it and use it!

This is not even a professional dj application like Native Instuments Traktor, or Serato Scratch. Professional DJs do not use this software. Why is it being mentioned here?

Pro? Are you kidding. This is a toy for wanna bees. No pro would be seen dead with this thing.

Actually you're both completely wrong.

I'm a career professional DJ, and do over 100 events per year. (Do I meet your qualifications?)

Having tested this App, it is:

1) 1000000x more stable than Serato.
2) 55,000,000x more precise than Serato.
3) Much cheaper than either Serato or Traktor, both of which charge about 90% more than their software is worth.

A professional with talent and skills can make use of anything. To criticize an App just because the UI is simple (as opposed to messy, unorganized, and packed with useless and problematic buttons), and because its delivered in an easy fashion , 1 click download (as opposed to having to purchase physical retail or jump through 500 hoops on NI's site to download anything).

Let me explain something to you. Traktor is overpriced Garbage.

Serato is gimmicky and low quality. They've made some improvements over the last decade, but they still SUCK.

I still DJ with CD's primarily, because most all software solutions SUCK.

This App however, is not bad, and is something I use intermittently. Not as a full replacement for CDs, and probably never, but I'll get more use out of this than your name brand over priced low quality junk software.

----------

The price isn't pro, it's actually very cheap.

The real pro-DJs (the ones who use turntables but have their MBP up there in the booth) use Ableton Live. Small time DJs, who might be using their computer to perform the entire mix (maybe even in place of decks) will use Traktor or Mixmeister. Mixmeister could analyse for key back in 2007/2008, when I last used it.

That said, all power to this company for trying. Maybe they are adding some nice 'pro' features. Like the poster before said, if it lets you have fun, that's no bad thing.

I'm not sure I'd want to use it in a club though (not that I'm a DJ)...

Abelton live is completely unnecessary, wayyyy more than any DJ needs in a live setting....and the DJ's who make 90% of the profits in the industry are MY KIND, mobile DJ's doing weddings.

NONE of us use Abelton and never will. That's a studio program written by a company that knows studio work. No one I've ever met in 10 years in the industry would even consider using Abelton at a gig.

----------

I agree entirely. My only objection was in the use of the term Pro. The program is very capable but it's not for us "elitist" professionals that care about the skills and art of our trade.

----------

The only elitist here is you.
There are DJ's that practice, research and work very hard at their trade. Just as there are videographers and photographers that do likewise. To call us elitist and faux pros is insulting and illustrative of your complete lack of knowledge on the subject.

LMAO. Get over yourself.

I guarantee I make a LOT more money than you do in this industry, and have forgotten more of the "art and skills" than you'll ever know.

There is nothing wrong with this software as a piece of the professional puzzle. Its not standalone solution, and its not meant to be.

I have a pro-function band and when not playing we usually provide the disco as well. Having used DJAY week in and week out for over 2 years I can say without any doubt this app does a pro job. Sure there are products which have some additional features (and additional pricing) but for 95% of events these will go completely unnoticed if not unused. As for reliability - DJAY has been 100% - no glitches, no freezes. Can't say the same for TRAKTOR which froze big time. Call it Pro, Prosumer, Amateur, even 'a toy' if you want.. it's the product of choice for me every time
2nd That! As a teacher in lower income High School who "Dj's" all the dances, this has been great! I've used it for at least 2 years now, and to upgrade for $19... Call me an amateur, I'm fine with that, I've got 300-500 kids dancing 5 or 6 times a year, and having a good time and I'm using this.
