Apple Offers Free iPad Engraving in Time for the Holidays

Back in July, a rumor surfaced claiming that Apple would begin offering engraving on the iPad, much as it does with its iPod line. The rumor claimed that the offer could be set to launch as part of the holiday shopping season push.

Right on time, Apple has just launched free iPad engraving, allowing customers to add up to two lines of custom text to the rear of any iPad ordered through the company's online store. The engraving option bumps the shipping estimate from "within 24 hours" to "1-3 business days", but allows gift givers an easy way to personalize their gifts.

The iPad is also part of Apple's holiday gift wrap program, allowing customers to have their iPad orders packaged in custom gift boxes for an additional $5.00.

Seriously?

How do the people figure into your life whom you give iPads?

For my birthday this year, I got sheet ties, a glucometer (that was free and didn't even included the test strips I needed) because I may be developing type 2 diabetes due to a side effect of a medication I take and wanted to monitor more than the doctor is willing to, a new shampoo cos I needed one, black shorts, even though I hate wearing black, and an inexpensive shirt and sweatshirt. (I turned 28, but that sounds about right for most of my birthdays.)

For my mom's birthday which followed weeks later, I got her a 64 oz tub of black licorice as per usual, and my dad got her a can opener (I'm not kidding, it's a German one, and he kept saying it's as much a work of art as it is a utensil). The only card I get is from my grandmother and I dread opening it, because I know it will somehow tell me this is the year to turn my life around—even though I've never done anything that bad that needs turning around.

Christmas is a time when my mom goes out and buys lots of little crap (she loves shopping) and divides it into too many boxes. One large box might have a pair of socks for example.

I love my family a lot and they love me. But I can't imagine them loving me enough to give me an iPad out of the blue. It would be nice to be surprised like that for a change.

So again, I don't ask to suggest it's wrong, but rather I'm jealous at how wonderful it is. And what do you get/expect? Big items as well? Because for as much as I complain about not getting big ticket items, I also don't give big ticket items either. Maybe you have to give big to get big, and then it sort of cancels out. Unless you're like a rich benefactor who enjoys giving a lot for the sake of it . . . in which case this post might be pathetic enough for you to feel like giving me an iPad for the hell of it! ;)

I got my mom one for monther's day...
