EAST RUTHERFORD - Tyler Nubin oozes confidence and leadership.

He was the first safety selected with the No. 47 overall pick in the second round of the NFL Draft in April and the Giants considered him the best at the position in the Class of 2024 as well.

There is a lot to be excited about Nubin as the Giants prepare for Brian Daboll's third season with training camp beginning July 24 with the first practice. And in terms of presence production, the rookie should not be overlooked on the back end of new defensive coordinator Shane Bowen's unit when ranking the 12 most impactful Giants heading into the year.

East Rutherford , NJ — May 10, 2024 -- Second round draft pick safety Tyler Nubin as the NY Giants hold their Rookie Camp and introduce their new draft picks.

Scouting report

A true ball hawk with 13 career interceptions in college, Nubin makes plays. The lineage at Minnesota is impressive as he followed in the footsteps of Antoine Winfield Jr., a star in Tampa Bay as a second rounder, and Jordan Howden, who was a starter as a fifth-round rookie in New Orleans.

The 6-foot-1, 200 Nubin has the size and length teams look for in the secondary, but his instincts are what sets him apart. He has very good range and can play over the top. His study habits and understanding of opposing offenses should allow for Nubin to get to spaces where young players probably should not.

Why Nubin made the list

Don't be fooled by the limited practice time spent with the would-be starters in the spring. Nubin has a gift and it's going to allow the 23-year-old to grab a hold of a role the moment he gets the nod from Bowen, who is a big fan. That gift is a knack for being able to blend game-breaking ability with a controlled physicality and a rare awareness of offensive concepts. The Giants said good-bye to Xavier McKinney, who played every snap last season.

And while No. 12 Jason Pinnock will likely be the first to step into that void, given his experience as a 16-game starter last year, Nubin has a chance to alter how this secondary is viewed by coming along faster than anticipated.
