Sandy Alcantara to miss 2024 season after having Tommy John surgery

MIAMI – The ace of the Miami Marlins pitching staff is going to miss the entire 2024 season.

Sandy Alcantara, the winner of the 2022 National League Cy Young Award, announced on social media that he underwent Tommy John surgery on Friday.

Alcantara last pitched for the Marlins on Sept. 3 against Washington.

Three days later he was diagnosed with a right forearm flexor strain and ultimately, after an MRI, a sprained right UCL.

The 28-year-old finished the 2023 season with a 7-12 record, a 4.14 ERA and 1.21 WHIP, striking out 151 hitters while walking 48 in 184.2 innings pitched.
