FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Fort Lauderdale residents were asked to “shelter in place” following a major gas leak that officials say occurred Thursday night near the city’s Harbour Inlet neighborhood.
The city of Fort Lauderdale sent a statement to Local 10 News Friday morning stating, “Everything is back to normal.”
The Southeast 17th Street bridge was temporarily closed due to a ruptured gas line in the area, according to Fort Lauderdale Commissioner Warren Sturman. The bridge has since been reopened.
A Local 10 News crew was at Southwest 17th Street Thursday night, where city workers and authorities were accessing the damage and cleaning up the area.
Authorities issued a warning Thursday for residents in Harbor Inlet or Harbor Beach areas to stay indoors until further notice. The warning has been lifted.
The cause of the gas leak remains unclear at this time.
No other details were immediately released.
