Man dies after being pulled from community pool in Fort Lauderdale

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Fort Lauderdale police are investigating after a man was found unresponsive in a community pool Wednesday morning.

According to police, officers and Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue crews responded to the scene in the 1900 block of Northeast Sixth Court around 8 a.m. and found the victim inside the pool.

FLFR personnel immediately began life-saving measures, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene, first responders confirmed.

Fort Lauderdale police spokeswoman Casey Liening released a statement Wednesday that said, in part, ”FLPD has initiated a death investigation. Preliminarily, this incident does not appear to be suspicious however the investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances.”

The victim’s age and identity have not yet been released, but fire rescue officials described him as “elderly.”

The circumstances leading up to the drowning remain unclear.
