Woman dead, police officer injured after crash in Fort Lauderdale

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A woman died after a crash with a police officer on Saturday morning in Fort Lauderdale.

According to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, the crash was at about 1 a.m., at Northwest Ninth Avenue and 11 Street.

“Preliminary investigation shows the civilian driver was making a turn and turned into the path of the on-coming marked police vehicle,” Sgt. Patrick O’Brien wrote in a statement.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue personnel took the woman and the police officer to the Broward Health Medical Center.

The police officer was treated for a non-life-threatening injury.

A doctor later pronounced the woman dead. The cause of the crash was under investigation.
