Liverpool's next transfer is wage-busting 'highly-rated' Chelsea talent with deal completed 'soon'

Liverpool are expected to add a talented left winger to their ranks in the form of 15-year-old starlet Rio Ngumoha after talks over a new deal at Chelsea stalled

Liverpool are closing in on a deal to sign Rio Ngumoha from Chelsea after agreeing to break their wage structure to secure a move for the 15-year-old sensation.

Ngumoha is regarded as one of the best players in his age group in the country and is set to leave the Chelsea academy system in order to sign for the Reds. He has been offered a scholarship at Stamford Bridge and has already trained with the first-team, but is now set for pastures new.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are edging closer to beating the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Bayern Munich to sign Ngumoha this summer. The Reds are in line to break their historical wage structure to bring in the teenager, who is rated highly at Anfield. A deal, according to the journalist, is expected to be completed soon.

Ngumoha, a talented left winger, made nine appearances for the Chelsea under-18s last season, scoring one goal and one assist, despite not turning 16 until later this month. Alongside this, he has impressed for England U16s, having already played eight times for that age group.

Some members of the Liverpool squad returned to training at the end of last week as Arne Slot started his pre-season preparations. Kostas Tsimikas, Jarell Quansah and Harvey Elliott were among those spotted at the AXA Training Centre as Slot got to work with a handful of his squad.

Slot, who was appointed as successor to Klopp last month, admitted in a press conference on Friday that his first task is to get to know everyone rather than getting straight on the grass, however. "Getting to know the people that work here, which I've done already, of course," he said.

"Getting to know the players, especially as a person but also mainly as a player. I've seen a lot of games from them, I've seen a lot of training sessions, but I think you get to know them even better if you are there with them together. And then implement [the] playing style.

"It's not that we're going to change everything over here because a lot of things are done really well. But we have to find ways to improve. I took my time for that because I was off for a lot of weeks, so I had a lot of time to look where we can improve. But I think starting to work with them will actually get us an even better insight in the improvements we have to make."
