The Jaden Philogene saga looks set to end with the Hull City winger poised to return to Aston Villa after at one stage looking like he was to join Everton. That means the Blues will have to turn their attention to other wide players. And player said to be under consideration is Napoli's Denmark international Jesper Lindstrom.

Everton could soon have further funds to play with with Amadou Onana closing in on a £50million transfer to Villa which could be a pivotal deal for Goodison Park chiefs this summer. Although the Blues might not be getting as much as they would previously have hoped for the Belgium international, his sale could be the key to reshaping the squad and ensuring that other valuable assets such as Jarrad Branthwaite are not sold for less than what the club deems to be their true valuation. Branthwaite has been the subject of two failed bids by Manchester United.

Everton, meanwhile, are closing in on a breakthrough in talks with Tottenham Hotspur over the future of Dele. The midfielder's contract expired at the end of June and the terms of the deal that brought him to Merseyside in January 2022 had looked set to complicate efforts should the Blues wish to offer him a new contract.

We'll also have also the reaction to England's defeat to Spain in the final of Euro 2024 despite Jordan Pickford's effort plus any new developments in Dan Friedkin's attempted takeover of the Blues.

New Everton Stadium could be highlight of Euro 2028

Colin Chong believes Everton’s future home will prove to be “a real highlight of the tournament” as thoughts now turn to the 2028 European Championship following the conclusion of Euro 2024 in Germany.

Gareth Southgate's England side were beaten 2-1 by Spain in the final in Berlin but the UK and Ireland will host the next tournament in four years' time.

European football’s governing body ratified the five-association bid back in October to stage the competition with Everton’s new stadium one of nine venues to be included.

At the time, Colin Chong, Everton’s interim chief executive and chief stadium development officer, said:

“Everton Football Club is proud to be representing the City of Liverpool as an integral part of the UK and Ireland’s successful bid to host UEFA Euro 2028. We feel sure our iconic stadium will be a real highlight of the tournament and the prestige of being a host city will bring so many benefits, beyond participating in a festival of football. It will allow the club and the local authorities to build on the already transformational impact that Everton Stadium will bring to our city region and will inspire young people from our local communities.”

Dele Alli part of Everton squad travelling to Ireland for pre-season training camp

Just in: Dele Alli is part of the Everton squad that has jetted out from Liverpool John Lennon Airport this morning to Ireland.

We reported over the weekend that discussions between Everton and the player's former club Tottenham Hotspur are ongoing over a revised payment structure that would allow the Blues to re-sign Dele should they wish. And as part of this deal, Spurs are likely to retain a sell-on clause if the England international departs Everton for a fee in the future.

Blues 'eye McKennie'

According to a report, Everton have made an enquiry to Juventus for midfielder Weston McKennie.

It's said that the American will leave the Serie A side this summer with Inter Miami also interested while Saudi teams have also enquired.

Some rather different options there. Either come to the Premier League, go home or chase the money.

It would be interesting to see how the USA international fitted in with the Blues squad if he made the move given that he ended up in a ding-dong with one of them on his only appearance at Goodison Park to date.

Scousers show London how it's done as Everton hailed for role in famous night

No I'm not talking about last night's European Championship final in Berlin where England slumped to a 2-1 defeat to Spain despite more heroics from Everton's Jordan Pickford.

Rather, this day in 1966 when Goodison Park was hosting it's second World Cup game with Brazil's grip on the trophy - which they'd won in both of the previous two tournaments - started to slip with a shock defeat to Hungary.

The Scouse public were being praised for the way they had embraced hosting the competition.

Stockholm-based publication Dagens Nyheter is quoted as saying:

“This is the football city of England, not stiff and serious London where you can hardly tell that there is a World Cup competition going on. The people here are really the supporters and friends of football.

“They have decorated the streets near the stadium and windows and doors bear paper garlands and flowers. They have put up notices on walls welcoming friends of football from all over the world.”

Jesper Lindstrom linked to Everton - what could the Blues be getting?

So with Jaden Philogene off the market, Everton will have to turn their attention to another new winger elsewhere. And that's where Jesper Lindstrom comes in.

First reported by Fabrizio Romano, La Gazzetta dello Sport now also suggest that the Blues do indeed like the look of Napoli's 24-year-old right-sided attacker.

Via Goodison News, the Italian publication say the Denmark international is "in the crosshairs" of Everton, who are ready to pay £25m to acquires his services.

But the report also suggests Aston Villa - them again! - could be in the running for Lindstrom, who it is said will have to play second fiddle to Georgian superstar Khvicha Kvaratskhelia next season at Antonio Conte's Napoli.

In perfect timing, Chris Beesley has taken a deeper look into Lindstom and what he could bring to the Blues.

Read his special report HERE.

Jesper Lindstrom of Napoli

Jaden Philogene medical

I was off at the weekend so missed any developments in the Jaden Philogene transfer saga, But it appears it is finally coming to a conclusion and the Hull City and England Under-21 international winger won't be joining Everton...

Aston Villa, of course, are closing in on a £50m deal for Everton midfielder Amadou Onana, too. We'll have any updates on that transfer today.

Commiserations Jordan Pickford

It wasn't to be for England last night as they were beaten 2-1 by Spain in the final of Euro 2024.

But it certainly wasn't for the lack of efforts by their goalkeeperer - Everton No.1 Jordan Pickford. He kept Spain at bay in the second half with two superb stops in particular.

After the match, Chris Beesley wrote an excellent opinion piece on why it's time to change the conversation around Pickford.

Good morning

And welcome to your Everton FC live blog for Monday, July 15 - the beginning of a week in which the Blues kick-start their pre-season programme.

Chris Beesley will be with you shortly to update you with all the latest Everton news and transfer gossip and I'll be popping on here and there, too. Let's start with some of the morning headlines.

Dyche words on 'the future' offer hint of Dele plan as Everton seal Tottenham deal

Everton have reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur over Dele Alli, giving Sean Dyche the green light to help the player work towards what would be a remarkable football comeback. Everton originally signed Dele on January 31, 2022, in a highly-incentivised move with Tottenham Hotspur that could have eventually seen them shell out up to £40million in transfer fees but that two-and-a-half year contract expired at the end of last month with the 28-year-old becoming a free agent.

The ECHO understands that under the new arrangement, the Blues – who were seven games shy of the first £10million payment being due under the original deal – are not required to pay a further fee should they offer the midfielder a new contract and although Dele is not yet ready to return to full training with Everton’s squad as he continues his rehabilitation from a groin injury that prevented him from playing last season, the plan is for him to travel to Ireland with the first team group this week.

Kendall joy as young England beat Spain

An England side featuring Everton's Jordan Pickford in goal are of course aiming to end 58 years of hurt since the country's 1966 World Cup win over West Germany by beating Spain tonight in Berlin and lift their second major international tournament in the shape of the European Championship.

Even further back though, in 1964, England defeated Spain in an Under-18s version of the Euros with their side containing future Everton player and then most-successful manager, Howard Kendall who was held aloft by his team-mates in the manner of Bobby Moore at Wembley two years later, following an emphatic 4-0 victory.

Onana transfer could be best thing that happens to Everton this summer

Amadou Onana and Jarrad Branthwaite

Amadou Onana is on his way as he closes in on a transfer to Aston Villa but while Everton might not be getting “value for money” with the £50million fee, it can still be the most-astute piece of business that they do all summer if it keeps the wolves from the door with Jarrad Branthwaite.

Everton seem prepared to take a hit on Onana’s fee as his exit was always by far the most palatable of all their big names and in generating the cash, they can now retain other prize assets or at least demand top dollar for their services rather than having rivals – like we’ve seen so far with Manchester United and Branthwaite – attempt to pull their pants down with a couple of derisory offers.

Everton face Lindstrom fight

Everton face competition from Olympique Lyonnais for Jesper Lindstrom's signature, according to a report.

Goodison News cites Football Italia as claiming the French side are also in for the Napoli winger who could be allowed to leave the Antonio Conte’s side on loan with an option to make the deal permanent for around €25million (approximately £21million).

Fabrizio Romano reported yesterday that the Blues have entered into talks over a deal and the 24-year-old is the club’s “next top target."

Onana exit latest symbol of strategic approach

Everton's Amadou Onana (Image: Dave Howarth - CameraSport via Getty Images)

ECHO Everton correspondent Joe Thomas has provided an overview of the summer so far for the Blues and how the expected departure of Amadou Onana to Aston Villa fits in with the wider strategic approach.

He writes:

Everton’s squad continues to be transformed during a busy start to the summer that now looks set to see Amadou Onana depart. The Belgium international is on the brink of a move to Aston Villa in a £50m deal that would end the speculation over his future that has persisted since the end of last season.

His departure had long been anticipated on the provision that a club reached Everton’s valuation for the 22-year-old, which Villa has done. Should the final details be overcome, then the deal would mark the third sale of the summer - transfers that would have raised fees of around £71m without Sean Dyche losing a player from his preferred starting XI.

Onana would be the most significant move of the transfer window so far for Everton. The player has long been of interest to clubs fighting in Europe, with Arsenal among those to have tracked him for a considerable period. His best performance in Royal Blue was against Mikel Arteta’s men in the 1-0 win at Goodison Park that heralded the arrival of Dyche.

Onana was the talk of the away dressing room after an emphatic display and impressed at the Emirates in the final game of last season. Manchester United and Newcastle United were also among the clubs that monitored him towards the end of the last campaign as his future looked increasingly uncertain.

While few at Finch Farm doubt his talent and ability, there has been an acceptance that he is ambitious - the player having repeatedly spoken of his desire to test himself at the highest levels - and an acknowledgement that he is not integral to Sean Dyche’s approach.

Good morning

Hello everyone and welcome to Sunday's Everton Live Blog.

It looks like Amadou Onana is on his way to Aston Villa in a £50million move that could be pivotal to the reshaping of Sean Dyche's squad this summer and potentially retaining other stars like Jarrad Branthwaite.

We'll have more on that coming up but stick with us throughout the day for all the latest news and views on the Blues.

Amadou Onana's summer of speculation close to an end

That's it from me today on what has been an unexpectedly busy day during a busier than normal summer to date. So, we started today speculating over whether Amadou Onana would get the move we have long thought both he and the club would like, and we are closing in on the answer, with Aston Villa having met the £50m valuation placed on the player. Full story on that - HERE.

Here is a piece on what that deal would mean for Everton, an overview of the state of play with the transfer window, targets and PSR. I hope you find THIS PIECE of interest.

Thank you for joining me today - I hope you have a cracking night.

All the action from Finch Farm

Dominic Calvert-Lewin takes part in an Everton training session at Finch Farm on July 9, 2024

It's been a busy week at Finch Farm after Everton's players returned for the start of pre-season. Some new faces said their introductions - with new signings Iliman Ndiaye and Tim Iroegbunam part of the early programme of fitness work. Some familiar faces also returned, with Jack Harrison back after his loan move from Leeds United was sealed for a second consecutive season, while Neal Maupay, who was on loan at Brentford last season, was another to return. Here's a gallery of images from the players returning to the grass this week - ahead of their trip to Ireland next week.

'Barcelona considered' Amadou Onana challenge

Fabrizio Romano says that Barcelona considered a bid for Amadou Onana but have decided against it because the Aston Villa move looks near to the completion and the club's focus is elsewhere, specifically on Nico Williams, who will line up for Spain against England in the Euros final tomorrow.

Whether any challenge does emerge remains to be seen, but Villa appear to have a big headstart and are on the verge of completing a £50m move.

Here is the latest on the big move of the day

What happened to Sean Dyche's lucky tracksuit...

Everton manager Sean Dyche gestures on the touchline during the Merseyside derby win over Liverpool at Goodison Park on Wednesday (Image: Chris Brunskill/Fantasista/Getty Images)

In writing about this Amadou Onana deal I've mentioned that pivotal week in April - when Everton won three games in six days - quite a lot. Well, a throwback to that week was the Sean Dyche lucky tracksuit. Can anyone remember that!? He ended up raffling it off and it has gone on to raise thousands of pounds for Everton in the Community. That and other nuggets in this latest edition of the Everton Notebook.

£71m in fees for three squad players

I've written this overview of the transfer window and state of play with regards to Everton. It feels like the business being done is following a strategy to this point and one that is pragmatic but which could strengthen the club financially and on the pitch. Should the Onana deal get over the line then Everton would have essentially brought in £71m in fees for three players, none of whom would be in Sean Dyche's preferred starting XI. That's pretty good business and work that should enable the club to further strengthen.

My piece can be read - HERE

Leon Osman: Royal Blue Podcast

As we count down to the club's move from historic Goodison Park, my colleague Chris Beesley has been overseeing a podcast series entitled Goodison: My Home. It's a brilliant listen and well worth checking out the back catalogue, which is available under the Royal Blue Podcast banner on podcast platforms and YouTube.

Some of the guests he has had on so far have been remarkable and this week he added to the impressive list with a new show this week. You can check it out here, with this one seeing him speaking with Leon Osman, who has seen Goodison as a player and now as a pundit.

Dele deal close to breakthrough

Meanwhile, a recap on the situation of another midfielder - Dele.

All roads lead to Villa Park

It certainly feels that way, anyway. After the early business that saw Lewis Dobbin and Tim Iroegbunam moving between the clubs, it is Villa that appear to have swooped in for Everton target Jaden Philogene and now there is this move for Onana. Club clearly means business ahead of its foray into the Champions League.

I think that is a useful fee for Onana in a deal that probably suits everyone. Everton have previously benchmarked him at a higher value than £50m but it remains a useful deal for a player who is not right at the heart of Sean Dyche's plans. He has been clear about his desire to test himself at the highest levels and this is a departure that has been anticipated for some time. A big fee during a summer important to Everton for a whole host of reasons.

Amadou Onana on brink of move to Villa

Right, I've stood up those initial reports and it is now also my understanding that Amadou Onana is on the cusp of a move to Villa Park.

Reports: Amadou Onana close to Aston Villa switch

Well, I said earlier that there was a big question over the future of Amadou Onana and that a move away looked likely... Dsvid Ornstein over at the Athletic is now reporting Aston Villa are on the verge of a deal for the midfielder. More on this to come

Royal Blue Column: Everton need to address elephant in the room - two transfer decisions are about to define the summer

I was off yesterday so my colleague, Chris Beesley, took over the Royal Blue hotseat. He used the column to talk about the future of the club and the positivity it feels is currently growing around it, but how progress is fragile and must be protected by continued sensible decision-making. You can read that - HERE

Everton and Dele - what is really happening

Dele Alli is working hard to return to the pitch (Image: Robbie Jay Barratt - AMA/Getty Images)

On to the future of Dele. I broke the story yesterday morning that new talks were underway between Everton and Spurs over the 28-year-old. This is essentially a conversation that has been going on for much of the past year but has fresh impetus over the discussions in winter were made redundant by the setback that ended Dele's season.

His contract with Everton is up but the terms of the deal that took him to Merseyside in January 2022 complicate matters should Everton wish to give him a new deal. The talks with Spurs are about trying to remove some of the hurdles that currently prevent Everton from feeling they can properly consider offering a new contract to the England international. If the move is successful it does not mean Dele will get a new deal, but it does mean that Sean Dyche and his team will bear the potential for that in mind as they monitor him in pre-season while he trains with the club as part of efforts to overcome his injury issues.

Since I wrote that story it sounds like conversations have been positive and the clubs may be moving towards a breakthrough.

Amadou Onana 'rejects Saudi interest'

Amadou Onana of Everton (Image: Tony McArdle/Everton FC via Getty Images)

Right, I mentioned Onana above and in the headline of today's blog. This summer has already been filled with speculation over where he might depart Everton for. While everyone at Goodison Park is well aware of his talent and quality there has been a sense of expectation that he might be one of the big players that moves on elsewhere. With that in mind, the Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri has written that the player has rebuffed interest from Saudi Arabia because he wants to remain in the Premier League. Tavolieri has been following Onana's career for years and has interviewed him a few times, so there is reason to give some credence to his claims Al-Ahli have approached the player's camp. Interesting response that. Newcastle, Arsenal and Man Utd have all had an interest in him at one point or another this year. His future is definitely one with question marks around it.
