New research from Högskolan i Halmstad University emphasizes the importance of collaboration for a successful energy transition in the construction sector. This doctoral research, conducted by Charlotta Winkler, Technical Director at WSP i Sverige, looked at how solar electricity production systems are integrated into construction projects, and the challenges that building owners face when they become energy producers as a result. It highlights that more collaboration is needed with developers working on products and processes for other industries, to bring those innovations to the construction sector and support the energy transition. Ending the week on a high celebrating Damac Tower – winner of the Best Tall Building Facade Engineering Award at the Tall Buildings Conference 2024. This new development in London provides residential, retail and office space. Its high-performing façades are composed of carefully sculpted panels of terracotta, reconstituted stone and glass – thoughtfully designed by KPF and our Façade Engineers to respond to its urban context. The project was a finalist in six other categories, recognizing our work in MEP, Structural Engineering and Sustainability, KPF’s Architectural design and the work of Contractor Multiplex. Peter Murray OBE and Allan Gibson presented the award to Rimmy Vij and Andy Nicholls from WSP in the UK, and Muhammad Nadeem and Antonio Cadinha from Multiplex. #WeAreWSP #Facades #Engineering #Awards

“The United Arab Emirates doesn’t have one major retrofitting challenge, it has two. This is another chance for us to lead the region.”, says Andy Dean, Senior Technical Director – Asset Transformation, WSP in the Middle East. Read Andy’s view on the sheer scale of refurbishment needed across the UAE and the parallel challenge of improving the energy performance of these buildings in increasingly hot conditions. https://lnkd.in/e9gZF4N9 #ExistingBuildings #Retrofit #MakesAPlace

Tim Aldeburgh, Cynthia Hidayat, PMP and Roneel Singh (FIEAust, CPEng, EngExec) recently attended Schneider Electric’s Innovation Days on ‘Designing the next chapter’ – an event highlighting the platforms, technologies and innovations being developed to improve design and construction. Roneel shared his experiences on a panel discussing the integration of information technology with operational technology systems and the considerations and benefits for building owners and operators. Tim spoke about enterprise carbon reduction strategies to help achieve net zero building targets. Collaboration and knowledge sharing like this is essential for our industry to deliver more resilient buildings, while also ensuring that we utilize technology to enhance the design process. Thanks to Matthew Proctor and the whole team for involving us. #Innovation #DigitialTransformation #DesignTheNextChapter SE Commercial Buildings

A great gathering of our mission critical leaders from across Europe at the Datacloud Global Congress last week. Several of our global clients attended and we enjoyed discussing project and industry trends. The two major global data centre challenges we are all facing are available, sustainable power and scarcity of people resources. The time is now to incorporate clean energy options into facility design, and we must invest in training and education for our greatest asset, our people.
