Last month, Thomas Vargas and Bamboo Ren from our team spoke with Sylvain Carle (CIVIC) and Allison Gibson (Spring) on how we can foster a more inclusive venture capital ecosystem for diverse, underfunded entrepreneurs – especially women and gender-diverse entrepreneurs. 💡 Three insights came up from our conversation: 1. Venture capital is supposed to be the space for investors to take risks. Yet, due to the effects of biases and a lack of data and tools, venture capital investors tend to perceive diverse entrepreneurs as more risky and less attractive than others.   2. Investors can overcome biases by actively reaching out to diverse founders, collecting and analyzing data, setting targets, and implementing incentives. 3. Entrepreneurs and investors can all benefit from being part of networks that promote peer learning, knowledge sharing, and shared mission. 👉 Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eh_gd6sH ---- This is part of our work for WIN-VC Canada, a national collaborative of organizations working to provide services, programming, events, and dedicated resources to women and non-binary entrepreneurs and gender lens investors across Canada. Earlier this week, our partners at WIN-VC Canada gathered in Vancouver for a 2-day retreat to recap an incredible first year of the collective. 💡 From insightful discussions on our Theory of Change with Ellen Martin to deep dives into barriers facing women/non-binary entrepreneurs in accessing VC with Bamboo Ren at New Power Labs, our gathering was jam-packed with valuable insights. And what better way to wrap up than with a pizza-making class at Rocky Mountain Flatbread? 🍕 Looking ahead, we eagerly anticipate another year of serving women and non-binary entrepreneurs and continuing to drive positive change in the venture capital landscape. Stay tuned for more updates and exciting developments from WIN-VC! A big thank you to DLA Piper for hosting us. WIN-VC acknowledges the support of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada.
