When it comes to transformative healthcare, breakthrough science is but the first step. For that science to reach everyone in need, our innovations must accurately reflect the real-world needs and experiences of all patients. This means understanding both the clinical and non-clinical barriers that prevent effective screening, diagnosis, and treatment of serious diseases.
How do we put our patients and their lived experiences at the center of all we do, from research to commercialization? By putting "patients in the room", I believe we can make decisions that reduce the non-clinical barriers patients face in accessing the medicines they need.
Recently, I spoke with Nicholas St. Fleur at the #STATBreakthrough Summit East about how this patient obsession is at the heart of the work we do at @Novartis. It is only when we walk in our patients’ shoes and emulate the same drive and urgency they embrace in fighting life-threatening and chronic diseases, that we will truly reimagine medicine, equitably and at scale.
