    Do you want to gain a deeper understanding of how well your middle school students are grasping key programming concepts like variables and control structures? Formative assessments can shine a light on their progress and pinpoint challenges, but finding assessments tailored to CS standards can be tricky.     Join SRI Education researcher Satabdi Basu at the Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA) 2024 Annual Conference on July 17, 2024, from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM for an interactive session on using formative assessments to diagnose students’ learning barriers.    In this session, we will break down programming standards for variables and control structures into easy-to-understand learning targets, show you how to use assessments to identify student challenges, review examples in different programming languages, and give you access to classroom-tested tasks and rubrics. The research presented at NRCEC 2024 aims to fill knowledge gaps in various programs supporting young children and their families.
