What is a community school (and what is it not)? A community school is a public K-12 school that focuses its effort on being a supportive learning environment, serving the whole child and its community, offering supports and services which eliminate systemic barriers, and allowing for all students and their communities to thrive. A community school is both a place and a set of partnerships between the school and other community resources. Community schools consider not only academic needs but also social, emotional, and physical well-being. Families and community members are brought into shared leadership spaces and bring crucial decision making power in providing integrated support services and community resources. #CommunitySchools #CCSPP Riverside County Office of Education

What do community schools do? Community schools are academic and social hubs where schools and communities come together equally to support and address factors which impact learning and success – completing this work to address the needs of the specific community. For example, community schools offer can on-site health clinics that deliver medical, psychological treatment, dental and eye treatment to students and families.
