September known as National Spinal Cord Injury Awareness month
Did you know that approximately 240,000 to 337,000 Americans live with a spinal cord injury? Spinal cord injuries range in cause and severity, but all have a significant impact on a person's physical and mental health. Common causes of SPI are driving accidents, falls, firearm-related injuries, and diving. Incomplete spinal cord injuries now make up over 60% of SPI, which shows progress in treatment and rehabilitation outcomes. Humanising neurodiversity & intersectionality to bridge the empathy gap and foster connection, belonging & safety⚡ | 🎤 Award-Winning Intersectionality & Neurodiversity Speaker, Scientist, Social Entrepreneur
When you have people in your corner, the air feels different. Yesterday when I arrived at NetApp’s office to deliver a neuroinclusion talk to a great team, I realised I forgot my squishy. No matter how many times I speak, I still get anxiety before a talk. It’s both innate and a result of my body keeping the score from a lifetime of undiagnosed ADHD and autism. So it was as important as air itself. I told Gideon Sassoon, along with my anxiety of displaying my cluttered desktop 😂 He looked thoughtful… and swiftly disappeared. As Bella Daniels and I got ready with the tech, we wondered where Gideon had gone. Out of nowhere, he put a beautiful paper bag in my hand. Shocked, I opened it and saw the most brilliant green crocodile squishy and a fidget spinner (just in case). He’d walked up the street to get this for me. Not only that, he found a second screen and a cable so I can separately display my slides and spare the world from seeing the array of screenshots on my desktop. This is what it feels like to be safe… in the knowledge that you can breathe easy, be yourself, and if you slip, someone has your back. ***I’ve never felt like this before in any of the workplaces I’ve been in..*** Neuroinclusion is about increasing the feeling of safety, so you can do your best work. It’s about recognising we all have different needs, due to our origins and route of travel in life. Thank you NetApp NetAbled Bella Daniels Gideon Sassoon Trent Peterson (he / him/ his) for championing this cause with a passion and creating the support for the people around you. Love you guys! 😊 #Neurodiversity #DiversityEquityInclusioBelonging #Intersectionality

At NetApp we love the "4 B's"...Beignets, Barbecue, Beer, and giving Back (ok I was reaching on "giving back" for the 4th b). Today's employee appreciation day in RTP let us celebrate all 4. We had breakfast beignets, then a barbecue lunch, and a beer bash at the end as well a give-back opportunity in partnership with the NC Diaper Bank. Getting together with our colleagues was outstanding, nothing beats COMMUNITY!
