MPIO applicants undergo a rigorous selection process to ensure they meet the program’s high standards. This year’s process was especially competitive, with less than half of the applicants making the final cut. The MPIO program is the culminating component of EMI’s public information training. Over the course of 10 months, participants attend three sequential 40-hour training courses. During this time, they must select a current PIO challenge as a research topic and write a paper on it, contributing to the PIO professional's body of knowledge. Another key aspect of the program is recognizing the evolving role of PIOs, who are increasingly seen as trusted advisors within their agencies and often have a seat at the executive table. The MPIO program teaches the skills necessary to fulfill this role effectively. Additionally, it provides training on leadership, management theories, and relevant concepts, enabling PIOs to lead whole community public information programs with confidence. To date, there are only 156 FEMA MPIO graduates across the nation. If you are interested in the MPIO program, check out our website at: https://lnkd.in/geG843kK The application period for the FY26 cohort will open on April 1, 2025. #thatsmyemi #pio #emergencymanagement

Last week at EMI, Planning Practitioner Program candidates were attending the second week of the program. Students spent time exploring planning program management, standards and evaluation of a planning program, and non-traditional partners and activities. This program allows planners to further develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform effectively as lead planners and planning program managers. Candidates apply the concepts learned in the classroom to improve planning activities conducted within their jurisdiction and strengthen the vertical integration of emergency management planning at all levels of government. #emergencymanagement #thatsmyemi
