About us

Many thousands of students have taken advantage of the opportunities offered by the hands-on projects, training sessions and engagement opportunities of the ESA Academy. By taking part in projects, university students have the opportunity to design and develop small satellites, as well as experiments that are flown in space and on research platforms, such as sounding rockets, parabolic flights, the International Space Station, and more. In addition, a rich portfolio of training sessions offers participants the opportunity to gain know-how and expertise in various disciplines, such as space sciences, space system engineering, space medicine, robotic exploration, spacecraft operations, product assurance, space law, and more. The ESA Academy furthermore offers scholarships and sponsorship to attend space-related training and conferences. Opportunities are open to nationals from ESA Member States, Canada, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia and Slovenia.

It's been two weeks since the historic inaugural flight of the Ariane 6, and this just in - we received the video from our friends at YPSAT of our CubeSats being deployed! 🚀 Take a look as the Exolaunch deployer first releases ³Cat-4, then ISTSat-1 into orbit. Both of these CubeSats are built by European university students as a part of ESA Education's Fly Your Satellite! programme. 🛰️ Built by students from Portugal’s Instituto Superior Técnico, ISTSat-1 will test new technology for tracking aircraft, using key subsystems developed by the team. 🛰️ ³Cat-4 was developed by students at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) in Spain. It carries three experiments to measure important climate variables. Both CubeSats have since received beacons and the teams are working to assess how to proceed. We hope to provide an update on mission statuses soon! Are we the only ones who get a little Star Trek feeling of seeing these being deployed into orbit? 🌌🛰️ Thanks YPSAT for capturing this amazing footage! We can't wait to see more of your results in the next weeks. 👨🚀 Note: The first object seen is ³Cat-4, ISTSat-1 and GRBBeta, ejected together and which later separated. The second object is CURIE. The video has been enhanced to highlight these events, that were part of the key mission objectives for YPSat 📸 IST NanosatLab UPC NanoSat Lab #ISTSat1 #3Cat4 #FlyYourSatellite #ESAEducation #Ariane6

🛰️🌍 After an exciting week of analysing #satellite images from various Earth-orbiting satellites, ESA Earth Observation Remote Sensing Workshop 2024 ended successfully last Friday!  🎉 ✨ 👩💻 🧑💻 Throughout the week, a talented group of brilliant #students learned how invaluable satellite observations are for supporting human development and monitoring Earth’s environment, even in the most remote regions! 🗺️🍃 🌐📊 The last day of the workshop was dedicated to data fusion. This consisted of bringing together all the knowledge from the different observation techniques they had gained during the week to perform a comprehensive analysis of a specific area of the Earth. The students applied this technique to a place in French Guyana 🔍📷  🎊 The participants returned home with many amazing memories and new skills, more than ever ready to deepen their understanding of Earth Observation and consider a career in this incredible field. 🌍 🚀 🛰️ #ESA #ESAAcademy #EarthObservation
