  • The Texas Workforce Commission 2024 Grace Conference provided resources and tools for second chance individuals to gain employment and self-sufficiency. From an interactive session of what a second chance individuals goes through to panel discussions on employment and benchmarks of reentry.     We are celebrating a $331.268 Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grant at Amarillo College. This grant is awarded by the Texas Workforce Commission to purchase equipment that will be used to train students in virtual reality welding technology. The CTE programs will help these workforce areas continue to build the pipeline of skilled workers for high-demand jobs. Congratulations to Amarillo College! It is wonderful to see how our community colleges in Texas are training for the future and keeping Texas’ employment and economy stronger than other states.     Today is National Intern Day and we are celebrating our intern, Regina Macias. National Intern Day is dedicated to recognizing and celebrating our future leaders – especially our future Texas leaders!! Regina has been working side-by-side with our attorneys in the Office of Commissioner Representing Labor with the Texas Workforce Commission . We loved having Regina and wish her all the best in her future law career. Thank you Regina!!!

  • Welcome to the Texas Rising Star Early Educator Conference in Houston, Texas. I appreciate our child care staff who work really hard to bring you professional development, best practices and networking opportunities for the 7th year. We value your dedication as educators and teachers for our young children.   • It’s always a pleasure to speak with trade members, advisory board members, and officers of the Texas State Association of Electrical Workers of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) . As we continue to work together to strengthen the Texas economy and workforce . As we work closely with our Workforce Solutions boards, there are several programs to enhance partnerships and benefit the trades and #Apprenticeship programs. This includes Adult Education and Literacy, Digital Skills Building and Vocational Rehabilitation Services. Training and upskilling Texans is extremely important if we want to continue to create a workforce that is well prepared for the future.   • We are celebrating Jobs & Education for Texans grants with big checks totaling over $578,000 for two grant recipients, including Jim Hogg County ISD (in partnership with Coastal Bend College ) and United ISD (in partnership with Laredo College ). In the first year of the grants, the funding will help train 1,226 students in high demand occupations in Healthcare and Welding.     It is wonderful to be back in Deep East Texas to give a warm welcome to business owners at the Governor’s Small Business Summit in Lufkin, Texas. Great information, networking, and panels set up to specifically meet the needs of small business owners. Texas continues to be a great place to grow a business. The fine folks with the Office of the Governor the Texas Economic Development can help you build that business. As Texas workforce continues to break records in growth, Texas Workforce Commission continues to help train Texans through our services and programs for high-demand skills training, quality child care and giving folks a second chance. We also assist veterans and their families as they transition from military service to civilian life. Thank you to Dr. Michael J. Simon, President of Angelina College for hosting this event.
