  • Congratulations to Krishnanand (Kris) Maillacheruvu, Ph.D., P.E., BC. WRE for achieving his Board-Certified Water Resources Engineer (BC. WRE) #boardcertification, the highest post-license board certification for water resources engineers. Dr. Maillacheruvu was board-certified for his advanced expertise, advanced education and experience, and attainment of specialized body of knowledge in #waterresourcesengineering. Dr. Maillacheruvu serves as the Interim Dean of the Bradley University: Caterpillar College of Engineering and Technology and the Bradley University: Foster College of Business in Peoria, Illinois. Dr. Maillacheruvu’ s teaching interests are in environmental engineering, particularly in biological treatment processes, site remediation, geoenvironmental engineering, environmental modeling, and fluid mechanics. He has taught groundwater hydrology, sustainability and public policy, environmental regulations and policy, numerical methods, geotechnical engineering, and pavement design. His research interests include biological treatment systems, industrial waste treatment and reuse, mathematical modeling of water environmental systems, and hazardous waste treatment and management, soil and groundwater clean-up. An active leader in numerous professional organizations, Kris has co-authored dozens of refereed publications and book chapters, many in environmental and water resources engineering. He has earned many recognitions including the ASCE Faculty Advisor of the Year (Region 3), Putnam Award for Teaching Excellence (Bradley’s highest award for teaching), Outstanding Academic Advisor from the Student Senate, and multiple Outstanding Faculty Awards. Kris serves on the Easter Seals’ Passage to India Board, which serves children with developmental disabilities; serves on the Board of North South Foundation (Peoria), which focuses on education; and served as a mentor in Peoria District 150 schools. Kris received his bachelor’s in civil engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and his M.S. and Ph.D. in civil and environmental engineering from the University of Iowa.   • Congratulations to Tristan Le, P.E, ENV SP, BC PE for achieving his Board-Certified Port Engineer (BC. PE) #boardcertification, the highest post-license board certification in port engineering. Mr. Le was board-certified for his advanced expertise and experience, education, and attainment of specialized body of knowledge in port engineering. Mr. Le is a senior civil engineer at the Port of Long Beach, California. With 25 years of professional experience, his expertise includes port-container terminal design, roadway improvements, public works engineering, hydrologic study and hydraulic engineering, water engineering, and land developments throughout Southern California. He has managed and executed notable projects with successful track records in project design, schedule, budget, deliveries, and construction. Mr. Le’s career at the Port of Long Beach began in 2009 and currently has been leading the work on the Port of Long Beach Terminal Development and Water/Sewer Capital Improvement Program. In his role, Mr. Le executes a wide range of civil engineering projects for land development; coordinates between clients, architects, contractors, utility companies and stakeholders; project management in scope, project budget, schedule, and deliveries; and oversee staff engineers with technical guidance, engineering solutions, and construction plan review. Tristan received his B.S. in civil engineering from the California State Polytechnic University-Pomona and is a licensed civil engineer in California. He is a member of ASCE, APWA, and AWWA.   • Congratulations to Jorge Zornberg, Ph.D., P.E., BC. GE, F.ASCE for achieving his Board-Certified Geotechnical Engineer (BC. GE) #boardcertification, the highest post-license board certification in geotechnical engineering. Dr. Zornberg was board-certified for his advanced expertise, advanced education and experience, and attainment of specialized body of knowledge in geotechnical engineering. Dr. Zornberg is a professor and Joe J. King Chair in Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. He has over 35 years of experience in research and practice in geotechnical, geosynthetics, transportation, and geoenvironmental engineering. He teaches graduate courses on earth retaining structures and geoenvironmental engineering at UT. Prof. Zornberg conducts research on soil reinforcement, transportation geotechnics, geosynthetics, unsaturated soils, liner systems, geotechnics of bridges, and numerical and physical (centrifuge) modeling of geotechnical and geoenvironmental systems. His research has been sponsored by the NSF, FHA, TRB, EPA, U.S. Department of Education, Geosynthetic Institute, geosynthetic manufacturers, the Texas DOT, Colorado, and California. Dr. Zornberg has served as an expert witness in litigation cases and has extensive consulting experience in all aspects of geotechnical engineering. Prof. Zornberg has been recognized with numerous honors and awards, including the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE), which is the highest honor bestowed by the U.S. government to outstanding scientists and engineers beginning their careers. Dr. Zornberg served as President of the International Geosynthetics Society and currently serves as Trustee of the IGS Foundation and vice-chair of the IGS Stabilization Technical Committee. He is an Editorial Board member of the journals Geosynthetics International, Geotextiles and Geomembranes, and GeoEngineering. Jorge earned his B.S.C.E. with honors from the National University of Córdoba (Universidad Nacional de Córdoba), his M.S.C.E. from Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro, and his Ph.D. in civil engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.     The CEC’s American Academy of Water Resources Engineers (AAWRE) is proud to announce James Lenhart, PE, BCWRE as the recipient of the AAWRE 2024 Outstanding Practitioner in Water Resources Engineering Award. Mr. Lenhart was recognized for his outstanding contributions in advancing the practice of stormwater quality through his pioneering inventions as the StormFilter™ and his leadership in the practice of stormwater management through the EWRI’s Urban Water Resources Research Council. The AAWRE Outstanding Practitioner in Water Resources Engineering Award recognizes a Board-Certified Water Resources Engineer who has demonstrated significant contributions to the water resources engineering practice. With over three decades in the engineering profession, Mr. Lenhart is the owner of STORMWATER NORTHWEST, LLC in Tucson, AZ. He is the former chief technology officer of Contech Engineered Solutions and was the technical founder of Stormwater Management, Inc., which developed the StormFilter®. The StormFilter is used to treat stormwater runoff globally. Mr. Lenhart is an inventor of multiple U.S. patents in stormwater treatment. He has authored many papers about water quality and stormwater treatment, mostly from results of applied research and stormwater monitoring programs. He has served as an adjunct instructor, having taught hydraulics and water resources engineering at Portland State University. He has over two decades of geotechnical engineering experience, with over five years at SME and previously fifteen years at Patriot Engineering and Environmental, Inc. Mr. Bannon has led the design of piers and wharves, ferry terminals, marinas, seawalls, shore protection, dredging, beach nourishment, living shorelines, and flood protection, as well as bridges in coastal settings.
