Last week I joined Emma Birtwhistle and Deirdre R. on a site visit. As part of the Great Grid Upgrade project, Emma and Deirdre are supporting our client, National Grid, by conducting ecology surveys along a proposed transmission line route in the East of England. The data they collect will then feed into an Environmental Impact Assessment, which will help with the project approval process. I was truly impressed by Emma and Deidre’s extensive knowledge and the use of digital tools for capturing observations, sharing information, and staying connected with their office teams. Spending time with them not only enriched my understanding of ecological surveys but also prompted me to reflect on the integrated services and solutions we provide to our clients. As a team, we are delivering transformative projects that will have a truly positive impact on the environment. Thanks to Emma, Deirdre, and the entire Ecology team! #WeDeliver #WeSustain

As Pride Month and Juneteenth celebrations wrap up, we’re reflecting on the amazing experiences Jill Kurth, Dale Griner, Matt T., Amy Hayes, Yaya Vega, Silvia Jacobs, Lucy Anna Bradbury and Laura Coll Martínez had proudly marching down Hollywood Boulevard in the Los Angeles parade. This year's #PowerinPride event was a fantastic celebration of the best LA has to offer and the embodiment of our belief that when we’re free to be ourselves, we thrive. On Juneteenth, our Vice President of Economic Inclusion and Social Impact Ken Billups and the South California BeBold Employee Resource Group gathered at Harold & Belle's Creole restaurant — reflecting on the day and its impact. Thank you to our teams for embodying our values and supporting communities across LA. Over the coming years, the effects of climate change are expected to intensify around the world. Cities are on the front line of climate change. Housing over half the world's population, they are already responsible for more than two- thirds of global greenhouse gas emissions and experience some of the worst environmental impacts. In 2023, cities like New York and Accra experienced severe flooding due to heavy rainfall, highlighting the urgent need for resilient infrastructure. With aggressive action, city emissions could be brought to net-zero by 2050 — but failing to act could see those emissions double in the same timeframe. Cities need to adapt and plan for a changed future and to develop in ways that are agile and resilient to climate pressures. Effective digital governance, data, and engagement are key to driving this change. Nina Schuler and Lucy Latham share valuable insights into how data-governed solutions could help address these unprecedented sustainability challenges. The first Partner Symposium for the Network for Engineering With Nature (N-EWN) took place last month in St. Augustine, Florida. This event, which brought together various partners to discuss Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) and the shift towards more sustainable approaches, was a testament to our collective commitment. NBS aims to improve the resilience of our communities, environment, and economy through collaboration across disciplines and boundaries, with the goal of using natural systems to enhance resilience across all aspects of our society. We have a wealth of expertise in science, planning, engineering, economics, and other fields, ready to partner up and make this happen. Bringing together our leaders within AECOM for the NBS initiative is not only exciting but also essential. We recognize that we have a long journey ahead, but initiatives like N-EWN give us hope that we can achieve these goals together. Let's work towards making NBS (Nature-Based Solutions) the norm rather than the exception, utilizing natural systems to enhance the resilience of our communities, environment, and economy. Members of our technical team in attendance: Chris Levitz, PE, CFM, Shane Parson, Anne deBoer, Lauren Swan, Laura Cherney, ENV SP, Tayler Peterson, Isabella Gandara, Victoria Salgado (Bartlett), Marisa Escobar, Ph.D., Michael Taylor Photos taken by Olivia Allen, Sarah Buckleitner, and Megan Sam. #AECOM #Enviornment #Resilience #NatureBasedSolutions AECOM - Environmental Services, AECOM - Buildings + Places
