🥺Been told that your child👶🏻 has low muscle tone but yet they seem stiff when you try to help them move 🤨And in fact when you have a feel of their muscles, they feel quite tight 🧐Did you know that children with low muscle tone can still have stiff tight muscles? Here at Sydney Kids Physio, our Expert Paediatric Physiotherapists 🤓see many babies and children with low muscle tone and delayed gross motor skills development. A common observation that parents make is that they notice that their child can get very stiff when they try to get baby to sit or stand or when little one grows older and walks they seem to be very stiff and robotic. In fact, parents would report that their toddlers often complain of leg pain and their muscles feel tight and stiff. Yet these parents have been told by their Paediatrician that their little one has low muscle tone. So who is right, parents or the Paediatrician?🤔 In truth both the parents and Paediatrician are correct about little one's muscle tone and muscle integrity. A little one can have low muscle tone and have tight stiff muscles at the same time. One reason why baby can have both low muscle tone and stiff muscles is because a baby with low muscle tone tend to have weak tummy, back, leg and arm muscles which is why they struggle to sit upright or crawl or walk by themselves. Instinctively, baby will try to tighten up all their muscles to try to stay upright in sitting or to crawl or to walk. In doing so, over time, little one's muscles become too tight and stiff. 😳 Another reason why baby can have both low muscle tone and stiff muscles is because of neurological conditions that can cause the muscles to make involuntary movements between sudden stiff movements to being floppy at other times. 😳 If you are concerned about your 👶🏻child's movement patterns or muscle tone, it is best to speak to an Expert Paediatric Physiotherapists 🤓so that they can carry out a full assessment and help your child learn to move better. 😬Is your child with Special Needs over 2 years old and still not yet walking 😳Does your child use bum shuffling as their main means of mobility Bottom shuffling is a mobility strategy that precedes independent walking in some infants. Babies who bottom shuffling move forward in a sitting position by using the buttocks, legs, or arms. The prevalence of shuffling babies has been reported to be 3–9% in various countries. Bottom shuffling is one of the common movement patterns that Children with Hemiplegia Cerebral Palsy, Ataxic Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome or Hypotonia tend to use Bottom Shuffling as a means of mobility. Bottom Shuffling can lead to delays in achieving gross motor skills of crawling on hands and knees as well as independent walking. 🥺 There are many reasons why a child learns to bottom shuffle including low muscle tone, increased muscle tone in one side of the body and muscle weakness on one side of the body. Regardless of the underlying cause of a child's bottom shuffling, here are 💡3 strategies that you can use at home to discourage bottom shuffling and to encourage crawling or promote weight bearing through the feet to learn to stand. 💡1. Place your child to sit on a chair so that their feet is down on the ground, ankles, knees and hips at 90 degrees. this will encourage your child to place pressure through their feet instead of sitting on the floor and rubbing their feet together. 💡2. Limit the space that your child is allowed to bottom shuffle around in your home by fencing off spaces using child safety gates or play pens. This is limit the practice of bottom shuffling. 💡3. Help your child learn to crawl on their tummy or on their hands and knees. To do so, you may require support from an Expert Paediatric Physiotherapist. If your child is bottom shuffling and over 18 months old, reach out to My Favourite Physio on 📱(02) 9790 4233 or DM us @myfavouritephysio to speak to one of our Expert Paediatric Physiotherapists 🤓today. #myfavouritephysio #paedsphysio #kidsphysio #sydneykidsphysio #bankstown #specialneedskids #hypotonia

We're embarking on an exciting journey to improve the understanding of feeding patterns in children with impaired feeding abilities. We need your assistance and in exchange, you can earn Amazon vouchers as you help further a cutting-edge feasibility study. Aparito's FEEDS study utilises our Atom5™eCOA platform to evaluate eating and feeding abilities in children aged 5 months to 7 years—right from their homes. This method aims to make assessments more comfortable for children, especially those facing swallowing difficulties, and provide us with invaluable data to support their needs better. Our goal is to transform eating and feeding assessments. Traditional methods often involve x-rays and nasogastric tubes, creating discomfort for young patients. Aparito is stepping forward with an alternative approach. This is more than research; it's a chance to be at the forefront of innovation. If you're interested in being part of this groundbreaking study and making a significant impact on paediatric care, please visit https://hubs.li/Q02syxz70 or email Navdeep Sahota via navdeep dot sahota at aparito dot com. #Dysphagia #IMD

A baby incubator is a critical medical device designed to provide a controlled and protective environment for premature or ill newborns. These compact units play a crucial role in neonatal care, ensuring optimal conditions for a baby's development outside the womb. The primary function of a baby incubator is to regulate the infant's temperature, humidity, and oxygen levels. Premature babies often struggle to maintain these vital parameters independently, making the incubator a lifesaving tool. The enclosed environment shields the infant from external factors, preventing heat loss and reducing the risk of infections. Modern baby incubators are equipped with advanced technology, including sensors and monitors that continuously track the baby's vital signs. This real-time data allows healthcare professionals to closely monitor the infant's health and make necessary adjustments to the incubator settings. The incubator's transparent walls enable healthcare providers easy access to the baby while maintaining a sterile environment. This accessibility is essential for medical interventions, monitoring, and providing specialized care to meet the unique needs of each newborn. Beyond the medical aspects, baby incubators offer emotional support to parents. The ability to observe their child's progress through the incubator's transparent walls can be a source of comfort during a challenging time. Additionally, the controlled environment allows parents to engage in skin-to-skin contact and bonding with their premature infants. Innovations in neonatal care continue to improve the design and functionality of baby incubators, contributing to better outcomes for premature babies. These devices exemplify the intersection of technology and healthcare, playing a pivotal role in giving fragile newborns a fighting chance at a healthy start to life. #snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinkers #designthinking #snsct #biomedicalengineers #babyincubator

👶🏻Is your baby cruising along the furniture and never letting go to walk by themselves? 🤔Wondering what can you do to help your child learn to let go of the furniture and walk by themselves? The age at which babies start to walk can vary widely, as each child develops at their own pace. On average, most babies begin to take their first steps 👣between 9 and 12 months of age. However, some babies may start walking as early as 8 months, while others may not start until 15 months or later. If babies are not walking independently by 18 months old, they are considered to be delayed in their gross motor skills. Here at My Favourite Physio, our Expert Paediatric Physiotherapists 🤓often see babies who are stuck at cruising along the furniture and not willing to let go to take their first steps. Here are the Top 3 reasons why a child may be stuck furniture cruising for months and not let go to stand by themselves to take their first steps: 😬1. The environment does not encourage them to let go of the furniture to walk by themselves. For example, the layout of the room allows a child to be holding onto furniture to walk around the room. 😬2. The child has ankle instability which causes the ankles to collapse in or the foot to turn in. As a result a child feels unsure and "scared" to take a step independently by themselves. 😬3. The child has low muscle tone which causes them to have weaker trunk muscles and leg muscles. As a result a child needs to hold onto supports to walk. The solution to each of these situations is different, and the key is to identify the cause of your child's refusal to take their first step. If your child has been stuck on cruising along furniture, reach out to one of our Expert Physiotherapists at My Favourite Physio 📱on (02) 9790 4233 or DM us @myfavouritephysio to speak to one of our Expert Paediatric Physiotherapists 🤓today. 🤨Have you noticed that your child 👶🏻isn't reaching out for toys or holding toys In their hands to play Is your child 👶🏻not holding their own bottle to drink or not holding their bottle with palms open and thumbs grasping the bottle 🍼 Did you know that babies can hold their bottles by 6 months old? Some babies may not develop their fine motor skills to hold a bottle until 10 months old. So if your child is not yet holding their bottle to drink by 12 months old, it is definitely time to see a Paediatric Physiotherapist for an assessment. 🧐It is important to note that it's not just the ability to hold a bottle 🍼or toy but how your child is holding the bottle or toy - are they able to open their hands ✋to grasp the bottle or toy with their thumbs open and opposing their fingers or are they holding the bottle with a closed fist✊ Here at My Favourite Physio, our Expert Paediatric Physiotherapists 🤓see many babies 👶🏻and children to help them learn to roll, sit, crawl, pull to stand and walk. One of the common things we see in babies who present in our clinic, is that babies are not using their hands 👐or they tend to keep their hands closed ✊with their thumbs inside their palms when at rest. This means that they are not able to effectively reach and grasp toys or even their own bottle. So to help babies improve their hand function, our Expert Paediatric Physiotherapists 🤓 often help babies improve their core strength and shoulder strength in order to improve the control of the arm and allow the hand to open ✋and grasp toys or their bottle. So if you are concerned about your little one who doesn't seem to reach or grasp toys or hold their bottle🍼 to drink, ring My Favourite Physio📱 on (02) 9790 4233 or DM us @myfavouritephysio to speak to one of our Expert Paediatric Physiotherapists 🤓today!
