If You Build It...

If You Build It...

These four words are synonymous with Field of Dreams, the undefeated champ in making grown men weep. The scene that triggers the memories of having a catch with your Dad elicits all the feels leading to the awkward fake rubbing of the eyes to cover your tears.

Major League Baseball, the typical whipping boy for “not being great at marketing”, recently announced that they will play a game at the famous Field of Dreams location next year. Chalk up a big win for the Iowa Chamber of Tourism. The key goal here by MLB is to re-trigger those same emotions while you watch this game. All the promos leading up to the event will be targeted to attract the 35+ year olds who may have had life get in the way of being able to still consume as much baseball as they used to. It really is a brilliant move.

If I could easily summarize why I work in sports 15 years later this event would be the best way to explain it..While working in this industry, you are able to create and extract these types of emotions in people of all ages by tapping into a deep rooted passion for sports that we sometimes can’t quantify. Having the ability to make people feel like a kid again, if only for 3 hours, is an amazing gift. So when people ask you… why do you want to work in sports, use that answer in lieu of the canned “sports is a passion of mine.” Ya.. you and the other 250 million sports fans in the US.

Which leads to the creation of this Front Office Features, designed to act as a resource for people looking to break into this industry, as a way to get a true perspective on how the sports world really operates. I hear too often from folks who have been saddled with bad advice or false narratives that lead them down the wrong path or are ill prepared to answer that simple question of “why should we hire you?”

I’m fortunate to call Fenway Park my office and Rob is currently in the middle of one of the most envious projects in sports, building a $90M new Ballpark for the AAA team of the Sox in Worcester, MA. Hopefully our expertise, based on our combined 30 years of experience, will help guide you down the right road to land your dream job. We look forward to interacting with you and providing a peak behind the curtain on this awesome, unique, crazy life we call a “job.”

So we built it and hope you will come… Welcome to Front Office Features.
