World Mental Health Day

World Mental Health Day

Sunday 10 October marked World Mental Health Day. We know that the pandemic has had a huge impact on mental health, as we have been impacted by lock-downs, social distancing, an inability to see loved ones and disruptions to our everyday way of life.

Sadly, mental ill health is a fact of life for many people around the world and we know that anyone, anywhere can be affected. Unfortunately there is still a lot of stigma around mental health, which is why it is so important that we acknowledge events like World Mental Health Day and be open to conversations about how we support those facing mental health challenges.

At RSM, we’re working on having even more of these conversations. Our Wellbeing@RSM program covers all areas of well-being, including mental health and is one of our key priorities given the impact the pandemic has had on us all. Work is a huge part of our lives and needs to be a place where we can discuss our challenges and support one another.

I personally have enrolled in a Mental Health First Aid accreditation, which includes five online modules and two half day workshops. I have completed the online modules with the workshops next week and have learned an incredible amount of valuable insights and only wish I had taken this program years ago. A must for anyone in management – you can see the details at https://mhfa.com.au.

So look after yourselves, look after your loved ones and look after your mental health Australia.

Thanks for sharing Jamie. You are on the mark with such strong leadership in this space. As we emerge from the last two years it is clear that mental illness and resilience will need to be supported with compassion. This is a critical and strategic role for boards, executive teams and leaders.
