What is happening in the country?

  1. Large number of industry people have siphoned of public money. There seems to be active support of bank officials in this. My personal estimate is that NPAs in banks would be definitely more than 10 Lakh Crore (I actually expect it to be 14 Lakh Crore). More than half of it is deliberate. Rest could be owing to slowdown in the economy.
  2. Governance in most of the organizations is grossly inadequate.
  3. Majority of religious leaders (not all) in all the religions are actually in business of religion. This is diluting spirituality in the society. Materialism is on a rise rapidly.
  4. Common citizen of the country is struggling to arrange two-time meals.

Dear professor, I agree that these are primarily the problems of the age. But when I reflect on the history of our country - ever since independence - every decade we have had at least all the four and some more. Haven't we? This can't be a new thing for us.

Rightly said. While all of them are equally threatening, I guess we should be concerned about the business of religion and business by religious leaders the most, because (a) there seems to be an active and unfair support by the sate to such attempts, (b) when it comes to religion, all are scared to bell the cat - including media (c) If you see, all the other three issues will be somehow addressed sooner or later by a market seeking an equilibrium

I think Religion is a pretty neat business across the world. It's a straight forward transaction - pay as you feel and dry-clean your conscience. What's more unfortunate is the exploitation of 'Reservation' system. While those in favor can brag about the suffering their forefathers have undergone and how reservation compensates for it; those against will be no short of words to put forward merit above reservation. Education seems to be only hope to get rid of most socio-economical stigmas prevailing in our nation. I hope real educators some day help carve out a better India to live in.

1. As we discussed during numerous case discussion, going to bank to fund your project is one way of ensuring your business plan is sound. As bank need to provide funding, it will ask all sort of question to cxo/owners that will eventually going to benefit the whole ecosystem of doing business. As you pointed Sunil Maheshwari and I agree too that approx half of Indian NPA is act of corruption. Its so ironical that one of present govt of India's to do is to create ecosystem where doing business is easy. Hence we can say govt. heart and mind is not at same place. 2. Many of religious leaders are minting money and spirituality in this nation is becoming a diluted preposition. I think that is bound to happen in a system that is over reliant on religion and less on scientific thought process. What is needed in society is balance of both opposing thinking, a duality as we discussed in many case studies. If this important dualism is missing in society than some smart/cunning people will misuse the society to their benefit. Just like if everyone is honest and one lier that that lier will rule the bunch of honest people.
