Vote for Employability Solutions: Every Little Helps

Vote for Employability Solutions: Every Little Helps

Last year I started working with a fantastic organisation based in Garston, Liverpool within my role as a Fundraising Consultant for GMA.

Employability Solutions is an ambitious community capacity building organisation that aims to improve the skills, lives and well-being of local unemployed young people from some of the most deprived areas of Liverpool through a range of formal and informal programmes of learning.

Recently they received the news that they had been become a recipient of the Tesco #BagsofHelp fund (follow the vote on Twitter using that hashtag).

Tesco has teamed up with Groundwork to launch its Bags of Help initiative across England and Wales. The scheme will see three community groups and projects awarded grants of £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 - all raised from the 5p bag charge.

Bags of Help offers community groups and projects in each of Tesco's 390 regions across the UK a share of revenue generated from the 5p charge levied on single-use carrier bags.

Employability Solutions' project is SLUG (South Liverpool Urban Garden). The initiative forms part of their CANteen project that enables young people to learn skills to set up their own food outlet social enterprise whilst promoting healthy eating and learning financial literacy such as how to cook healthy food on a budget.  SLUG will be a place where young people can grow their own fruit, vegetables and provide community events with a focus around eating together and sharing food.

The public will now vote in store from 27 February until 6 March on who should receive the £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 awards.

So, my plea to you is simple. When you are next in your local Tesco between the voting dates, keep your eye out for the voting stands and please consider voting for Employability Solutions. They really are doing some fantastic work to help our young people better their futures.
