Veganuary, Uncovering Seafood Innovation: JINKA

“We have only discovered 5% of the ocean; lets keep the ocean clean, so we can still discover the last 95%.”

Jinka is a ready-to-eat plant-based Tuna that comes in three delicious flavors. The tuna is free from mercury, micro-plastics, and other pollutants and contains 14g of protein and 250mg of microalgae in every serving! Microalgae is a good source of omega 3. The soy base adds a healthy dose of fiber, calcium, and potassium.

The company is located in Burlingame, CA, and it started as a non-profit organization. The product originated as a snack enjoyed during camping events for children and young adults. The brand concept was inspired by an objective to reduce the carbon footprint within oceans. The product was formulated to provide a nutritious snack that positively impacted the environment. The excitement around the taste of the tuna quickly spread by word of mouth, and soon, the tuna was launched within the marketplace for all of us to enjoy!

Delicious taste, tuna-like texture, and clean ingredients make this a prime pick for the healthful eco-conscious consumer. The three flavors include original, lemon dill, and spicy! It pairs well with crackers, vegetables, or a tuna sandwich!

Jinka should be sold near the spreads or the meatless section in the seafood department. Ideally, the brand will be featured off-shelf while on promo in a refrigerated satellite display. The goal is to get the consumer excited about the path to purchase and discovery as they consider replacing their traditional tuna spread with this substitute. This first encounter or "moment of truth" can be enhanced if the product is merchandised adequately and priced comparably. A call for creativity!

I hope retailers will capitalize on in-store initiatives around Earth Day and group products that support vital sustainability initiatives via strategic merchandising. It would be the ideal time to feature Jinka. Let's call attention to their mission to preserve natural resources and give our oceans a break!
