Stockton Bermingham – Graphic Designer

Read more to get to know Bermingham, his journey with the Jazz, and any advice he has for those wanting to join the organization.

“Stockton led out on the creative look and feel for our 2024 All-Star campaign. He spent countless hours with a "scrappy" mentality and "all-in" attitude to create a design system inspired by vintage trading cards. He spent many nights and holidays working late to create all the assets needed, ranging from social to in-arena to print. He worked closely with several other teams involved to make sure everything was cohesive and polished. Stockton is dedicated to giving his best every single day and always brings such fun and innovative ideas to every design project. We learn something new from him all the time and we are lucky to have him here at the Jazz!” the Jazz said in a statement.

1.) What was your reaction when you found out you’d won? 1a.) Honestly I was shocked. It makes me feel very appreciated and valued as a designer.

2.) How was the last month different when compared to your other months with the Jazz? 2a.) My last few months in general have been really rewarding, but the last month specifically has been a lot of projects trying to promote our players for All-Star Weekend events. Other than that it's been pretty normal.

3.) How did you get your start with the organization? What has that journey been like?

3a.) My connection to the Jazz started in the summer of 2021. I was working with a small design studio that got hired to work on an off-season creative project for the Jazz. Through that, I met a lot of the creative team and applied a few weeks later when they had a full-time design opportunity. I've been working full-time on Jazz projects as a marketing employee ever since.

4.) If asked, how would you describe your role to someone who didn’t know? 4a.) To describe my role, I would say I'm basically a professional typographer (and then I'd likely have to explain what typography is). On top of my typography-centric work, I also do a lot of photoshop/image-manipulation work to pair with it.

5.) What is the best part of your role? What is the toughest part?

5a.) The best part of my role is being able to impact graphics and visuals that all of Jazz Nation get to see. The reach that my work can have is truly rewarding. The toughest part of this job is the rapid timeline things can have. The trade deadline is a perfect example of high-priority things that we need to respond to immediately with little preparation possible.

6.) Is this your dream job? If not, what is?

6a.) This is definitely ONE of my dream jobs. I feel truly lucky to have crossed it off the list already in my life. I would also love to work as a designer in sustainability, movies and music.

7.) Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years?

7a.) In 5-10 years I see myself working in one of the above alternate industries in a larger US city, preferably near the coast.

8.) Any advice/inspiration you’d give to someone looking to join the Jazz organization?

8a.) Advice I'd give to someone joining the Jazz would be to prepare to be able to pivot and react to things at any moment. Literally anything can change in the NBA at any moment.
