Whether you are searching a job or initiating a startup, developing personally and professionally is essential in making your brand and creates an impact among your networks and in the market. Concerning the matter, below quoted are few but main tips and steps based on my recent observance.

1) Focus on developing strong connections

The basic step on increasing your connection size is to start from your own circle, being specific to general; friends, classmates, mentors, colleagues, clients and then broaden the list further.

Remember, LinkedIn is not about volume, it is about strong connections. Try to develop a worthy impression by sending a note along with your connection request. LinkedIn have made it easy by establishing a one tap “Send Note” option for its users which appears when requesting a new connection to accept invitation.

Networking always adds up as a supportive element in your development, be it through any medium. Therefore, it is encouraged to create connections along with building rapport and form a bond.


According to the survey by Hubspot LinkedIn appears to be 277% productive at generating leads when compared with Twitter and Facebook.

2) Be consistent with Endorsements and Recommendations

You can get recommendation statements on your profile and endorsement of relevant skills too. These testimonials are mostly offered and can be provided by the people with whom you have worked or studied. Gain these points by requesting them to emphasize those attributes which you are excelled on and the factors which impressed them. 

Make sure you shouldn’t receive general comments such as; Bill is fun at work etc. On average, an effective profile must have recommendations ranging from 5 to 10 sources.

Endorsements involve options having set of skills to strengthen your profile specifically. Asking people to endorse helps profiles to stand out.

3) Optimize your Profile fully

You can achieve maximum visibility on your profile supporting in your brand development by utilizing LinkedIn the right way. As per my survey on visiting profiles, people tend to fill up their profiles incompletely. The above image is an example of an almost completed profile and of the way where LinkedIn guides us on every step to gain its “All Star” rating.

Establish emotional and valuable connections with your employees and potential customers by setting up an active Company page on LinkedIn. Then, note the analysis appearing on your page to get the idea of the type to develop relevant updates and content with more influential element.

You can also have a research on your competitors to stay updated regarding the market. Their paid service “Sales Navigator” system helps with information on changes within the industry. Don’t forget to integrate your LinkedIn page with other social platforms and align your social media strategies as well.

4) Engage yourself in talking and commenting

Comment, Engage and Start Conversation with your connections

While developing a brand, staying consistently engaged on LinkedIn is the tool to be in the sight of the audience. Rather than selling to a new connection on the spot, let’s focus on small talks!. LinkedIn have made communicating easier as it facilitates with smart replies service displaying automatically generated, short messages on every step, for instance, How are you, Great, Thanks etc to have a productive and time-saving conversation. In addition, small talks are always considered a basic step in terms of networking. 

Viewing excessive updates of articles, thoughts or questions all over LinkedIn demands comments or ideas to be shared. Commenting is another way to acknowledge the existence and make place of your brand among your networks making your profile easily available to view.

5) Share and update your Interests on forums

Share daily or weekly updates to your connections on LinkedIn

Publishing will help you in your personal development by centering the establishment of your expertise. It will bring relevancy in your personal brand with your skilled area.

Bonus Tip: Make sure to develop general hashtags for easily appearing in the searches.

A plus point for your development is to stay active on discussion forums surrounding your skills.

You can share your opinions by publishing articles, blogs and participating in forum discussions. Remember to focus on sharing what you think about that event or concept. Moreover, thoughts can also be stated with preface to the link of other’s already published articles.

Article links can also be used by commenting it along our opinions on people’s concerned posts. This act would portray your personality as an influential and worthy connection to stay updated with. It will attract more but, useful connections for your profile for learning and growing further.
