Time for a rhyme?

Time for a rhyme?

Remember when we used to meet

At conferences and meetings

Where hand-shakes and a friendly kiss

Were acceptable greetings?

It’s been a year of remote work

A break from the commute

When speaking on a Zoom call

Meant putting kids on mute.

Technology has pulled us through

Despite wi-fi frustrations

And we’ve experienced the widest range

Of bizarre communications.

The CEO who sits at home

A PowerPoint on show

And speaks and speaks for weeks and weeks

To make his business grow.

The entrepreneur with quite some flair

Who doesn’t understand

That lists of bullet points on show

Just aren’t her strongest hand.

The supplier with some stock to sell

Who makes the odd decision

To send 2000 words of text

All lacking in precision.

And we’ve all snoozed off

As the sales rep

Insists on taking us through

That huge slide deck.

The lesson should be very clear

With so much information

Please focus on the benefit

And clear prioritisation.

Just cast your mind way back to school

And your very favourite teacher

Who explained the reason ‘why’

Without listing all the features.

So why not use a brand new year

To let those bullets go

And resolve to tell your audience

What they actually need to know?

It doesn’t take a scientist

To make communication great

Just clarity and relevance

And then sit back and wait.

No longer will you be ignored

After sending an email

Prospects will respond at last

Which is the Holy Grail.
