Three things we learned today from #EURef voting demographics

Disclaimer : Information from a sample of 12,369 voters as they left the polls courtesy of http://lordashcroftpolls.com/2016/06/how-the-united-kingdom-voted-and-why/

I will leave it each of you to make your own conclusions/opinions, around causation but the correlation and clear trends has helped me rationalise the country's decision, and remind me of the stages we all need to go through in point 3.

1. There is a clear correlation between age and voting preference : "the older the voter, the higher the proportion voted leave"  - with almost 60% of pensioners voting to leave vs only 27% of young people aged 18-24.

 2. There is a clear correlation between social status and voting preference : "the lower the skill level of an individual the higher the proportion voted leave" - with 64% of DE group (lowest skilled / manual workers) voting to leave vs only 43% of AB group (managerial / professional) voting to leave.

 3. And finally, after the shock , we all will go through the defined stages of the Grief Cycle - both as individuals, and as a country. We will all go through the stages at our own pace, and this will be an emotional topic for many, so we just need to remember and respect that we may be at different points on the curve when having these conversations,

Thanks to a post on twitter from @Andyy that referred to his take on the Kubler Ross Grief Cycle to remind me of this.

I'm sure the conversations will run for a while, between shock, denial and anger, for many, but on a personal level I feel that writing this post is a positive exercise.
