Tech Equity Miami: Unlocking the promises of tech and innovation

Tech Equity Miami: Unlocking the promises of tech and innovation

Since 2012, in response to growing community demand, Knight Foundation's work in Miami has focused on accelerating the development of a tech and startup culture, open to the entire community, that helps make the city a place where ideas are built and ventures are scaled.

In pursuit of a more engaged and participatory Miami where the promises of technology and innovation are available to all residents, I’m thrilled to introduce Tech Equity Miami. A first-of-its-kind funding consortium, Tech Equity Miami is deploying $100 million in philanthropic funding over five years into initiatives that remove barriers to entry into the tech industry and expand economic opportunity in the #305.

Tech Equity Miami was born from the belief that tech can—and will be—one of the greatest accelerants of socioeconomic mobility and opportunity creation our community has ever seen. Moreover, by investing collaboratively in outcomes-driven initiatives, our community will achieve the social transformation it seeks more quickly and inclusively.

Tech Equity Miami already counts over $55 million in funding commitments from a collective of founding members, including Knight Foundation, JPMorgan Chase, The Miami Foundation and Miami Dade County.  aīre ventures, a social impact venture studio, incubates Tech Equity Miami with support from Citi Foundation.

As founding members, we believe Tech Equity Miami will serve as a new national blueprint for outcomes-driven systems change and we invite you to join us—as a member of the funders consortium, a project seeking to amplify its impact, or as a supporter.
