Snapchat: The Next Unicorn

Today the users of the digital world use a variety of social media platforms. Some do it for information spread, some do it for telling the world about their personal achievements and the others use it to consume information. Whatever, the reason be, Social Media plays an enormous part in yours and mine daily life.

Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin have and are still ruling the roost. But, other social media platforms are not far behind. Among them, Snapchat is showing the tendency of being the next golden boy, the next unicorn in this league.

You would be asking, Why Snapchat? Well let us look at the reasons why I believe Snapchat will be the King of the mountain.

  • Snapchat has a tendency to innovate. It has a tendency to adapt and keep coming up with new offerings. Look at the stories feature that it introduced as a pioneer. FB’s Instagram and Twitter’s Moments are the followers.
  • Privacy is a major concern with social media platforms like Facebook. But not with Snapchat. It destroys your snaps after a specific time period.
  • With reference to my earlier article that I wrote on Mobile Marketing, Number of Mobile users are forecast to be around 4.77 billion by 2017. While other social platforms have adapted to mobile, Snapchat was made for mobile, which gives it a big plus. 
  • Snapchat has 10 billion daily video views.
  • Majority of the Snapchat Users are of young age between 13 to 24 years. This is the generation that is going to take Snapchat with it when it enters its 30s or 40s, because this vast majority is growing up using this platform.
  • If you look at platforms like facebook, they have aged. Their preference with the users is decreasing. The attraction towards these platforms is decreasing by the day. We can see the proof in the drop in the rankings for organic reach through facebook.

These are only the major listed considerations for Snapchat to rule the digital domain space. It has also major ambitions of becoming the AR First company. With its focus shifting on the targeted ads monetization, it is moving towards the unicorn frontier at great speed.

So, what are you waiting for? If you are not yet on the Snapchat bandwagon, then it is high time you get on this bullet train. The Future is here.
