SETTING EXPECTATIONS WITH EMPLOYEES

SETTING EXPECTATIONS WITH EMPLOYEES

Our aim shouldn't be to achieve what we did not set out to achieve. As a team leader, you are responsible for setting expectations and outcomes for your team's success.

1. Get clear on what needs to be accomplished

Is what you are asking for realistic? Take into account the what, when, and why. A smart goal will determine the pace and timeline of a project.

2. Be explicitly clear in the conversation

What is expected? When is it expected? And most importantly WHY is it expected? When all the reasons are justified, your team members can be able to evaluate the nature of the job and have an expected result.

3. Ask questions

Ask them one or two questions to see if they need anything more to complete the information you have given them. Follow up on any questions you have as the project develops. Ensure that everyone is actually on the same page by doing this.
