  1. Tell us about your work - your professional career as well as your commitment to community.

I have a diverse professional background. Initially I focused on Human Resources, gaining comprehensive experience across all HR functions. However, in the past three years I have made a significant pivot in my career trajectory by assuming the role of chief of staff to the CEO and President of Blue Cross and Blue shield of Minnesota. In this capacity I oversee critical areas, including strategic alignment, communications, and operations. My commitment to community engagement is a vital aspect of my professional journey. I have the privilege of serving as a bridge between our organization and community, fostering collaboration and innovation to address the most pressing needs of our community members. It is a gratifying endeavor, as it allows us to empower individuals on their journey to healthier lives, reflecting the shared mission of Blue Cross and Blue Shield.

  1. Can you talk to us about your journey? What are some of the challenges you faced when you were starting out?

My journey has been far from easy but I have never sought out the path of least resistance. The most significant challenges I encountered stemmed from my upbringing in a community where I had to rebel against conventional norms. Whether it was pursuing higher education, seeking employment, or even venturing outside my home country, these were all activities that I approached with a rebellious spirit. Rather than viewing these challenges as barriers, I saw them as opportunities to push myself beyond the ordinary.

  1. What do you consider your biggest accomplishment so far?

My most profound accomplishment, one that truly inspires me, is the journey of remaining deeply connected to my roots while representing my community and my country on several occasions. Rather than singling out a specific achievement, I view my life's work as an ongoing tapestry of accomplishments. I firmly believe that there is an endless potential for more remarkable achievements in the future.

  1. What's the most valuable lesson/ advice you have received? What advice would you give as a mentor?

The most valuable piece of advice I received is the importance of actively investing in networking, serving as your own advocate rather than passively waiting for someone else to do it for you.

As a mentor, particularly to young women of color, I encourage them to be unapologetically bold, embrace calculated risk, and dive deeply into networking opportunities. Supporting each other not only empowers each individual but also strengthens the collective fabric of our professional lives.

  1. What are you most excited about for the future?

I can't wait to see how technology, creativity, and human ingenuity will combine to tackle some of our most pressing global challenges. I am thrilled about the opportunities to continue mentoring and inspiring the next generation. Lastly, I'm eagerly looking forward to embracing the unknown. The future is an open book and every chapter promises new experiences.
