SavingsCARES: How Special Olympics Washington Makes an Impact

Special Olympics was founded in 1968 by Eunice Kennedy Shriver with the intent to change lives with sports and create opportunities for those often left on the sidelines. Through Special Olympics Washington partnership with Savings.com and SavingsCARES, the company is leading the way in bringing together athletes.

Founding a legacy:

Special Olympics Washington came to life thanks to the founder Eunice Kennedy Shriver. Special Olympics Washington is the leader in sports, inclusive health and community building. The vision is to empower children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Since the founding of Special Olympics the program has provided inclusive sports in more than 200 countries and more than 5.7 million athletes compete in Special Olympics programs. In Washington, Special Olympics is providing year round sports training, free health programs, and athlete leadership training to thousands of athletes.

Deals that do more:

Special Olympics Washington came to their partners at Savings.com about being included in SavingsCARES. The brand wanted to fuel donations for Special Olympics Washington and to increase awareness for its nonprofit extension. As a result of the partnership, customers were given a chance to contribute to Special Olympics Washington while saving money as they shop. 83% of all donations to Special Olympics will be directly applied to sporting and training equipment for athletes with intellectual disabilities. The donations will also provide education and competitive events for these athletes.

Savings.com promoted the deals shoppers are used to, and SavingsCARES amplified those deals to raise awareness and donations for Special Olympics Washington philanthropic efforts.

Did you know?:

The founder, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, initially named what would become Special Olympics as "Camp Shriver." This initiative began as a summer camp for individuals with intellectual disabilities in her own backyard back in 1962.
