Rich Levy’s Highlights: Celebrating the Craft of Creativity at Cannes

If I thought Day One was great, Day Two was a runaway hit. The 2024 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity continued last night with the awarding of Lions in the Craft and Entertainment categories.

Last night, my jaw dropped when I saw the amazing copywriting in the Achievement in Production winner “C4 IDENTS” from Channel 4 and Art Practice . Just when you thought the writing couldn’t be better, they’d turn another phrase, and my reaction was, “Wow—the craft in this production is amazing, but I hope this entry also wins in Copywriting.” This is one campaign that I really wish I had worked on.

Two other amazing campaigns from the FCB Network were among my favorites last night. The first was “Runner 321” from FCB Canada . As a runner myself, I was deeply affected when this case film was played in the theater. What a lovely, beautifully crafted idea. The second idea was “Lap of Legends” from FCB New York . I love the combination of innovation, craft, technology, and good old-fashioned storytelling—all wrapped up in one fantastic idea. Congratulations to both agencies. (In full disclosure, before joining Klick five years ago, I was the CCO of FCB Health.)

In the Design Lions, my favorite was easily “Sightwalks” from Citrus Grey in Lima. As someone who works in healthcare, seeing a design system that helps the visually impaired manage their everyday lives had me beaming with pride (no Cannes Lions pun intended). The idea was simple, amazing, and so well done that I couldn’t wait to shake the hands of its creators, who happened to be sitting right in front of our team in the theater.

But the idea that had me with literal tears in my eyes was the Photography Industry Craft Winner “The 100th Edition” from Scholz & Friends , Berlin. The work they created for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung left me speechless—and for those who know me—that’s a tough thing to do. If you haven’t seen this campaign, search for it online. You won’t regret it.

As Day Two ends, I once again applaud the bravery, creativity, and audacity of the ideas awarded last night. I could have picked any one of 10 different campaigns to highlight in this post. So, I’ll end with the request that you seek out the winners, look at the work, and join me in celebrating these amazing results.
