Resiliency and Adapting to Change in Corporate America (nuggets)

Resiliency and Adapting to Change in Corporate America (nuggets)

Nuggets from last Wednesday’s speaking engagement at Year Up Greater Philadelphia:

Sometimes tunnel vision is the best vision.

You have to eliminate your distractions. Don’t be afraid to tell people “No” so you can keep focusing on your goals. Don’t be afraid to tell yourself “No”. You have work to do.

Find something that lifts your spirits first thing in the morning and repeat it until it becomes a habit.

Your level of discipline will determine how successful you will be.

Your internship may not be what you want but it will get you the experience you need to put on your resume. Look at it as that catapult to get you to your next opportunity. It will also teach you skills that you’ll probably use well passed your retirement.

Find someone who is doing what you want to do in your career and ask if they can mentor you.

Going after well known companies may not be what best for you. Companies you never heard of have a lot to offer. You could be what they need just as them being what you need for your career strategies.

Always be a student. There’s always more to learn.

Become a mentor for someone. It’s important to pay it forward. Someone needs your story and advice. Be willing to share when the spirit leads you.

When working on your goals, you have to throw your whole self at them.

Last and certainly not least - YOU CANNOT GIVE UP ON YOURSELF! You deserve everything you desire. You just have to work for it.
