Remembering those who paid for our freedom

Over the Memorial Day weekend, families and friends in the U.S. gathered to celebrate together and pay tribute to those service members who gave their lives while fighting for our freedom.

This year felt different. The past two pandemic years were a battle in itself. The conflict in Ukraine puts freedom in a much different perspective, and the sacrifice of those who battled for it and perished is so much more meaningful.

And while today marks the end of Military Appreciation Month, a month when in the U.S. we honor and pay tribute to military service members and veterans around the world, for Verizon, we support and appreciate the military all year round. Especially now, as the world faces the uncertainty of war and humanitarian crises, it is more important than ever to express gratitude to those who serve with an unwavering commitment to peace.

At Verizon, we take great pride in supporting military and veteran communities all year long, and that includes close to 8K of our V Teamers who serve and have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. We value the courage, resilience and determination of our military employees—the attributes that carry forward to civilian life and align with our company values. We’re fortunate to have nearly 1,100 military spouses working with us as well. We are honored to be recognized as a Top Military-Friendly Company for the fifth consecutive year, and to have received the 2021 HIRE Vets Medallion and 2021 Best for Vets employer ranking. We continue to find opportunities to work together with the military community to make a difference from recruiting, supporting, developing and mentoring military talent, to our commitment to working with veteran-owned businesses.

With thousands of military employees and veterans among the ranks at Verizon, we are especially dedicated to partnering with the Verizon employee resource group VALOR which is more than 4,200 members strong and growing. And our V Team is proud to show support by volunteering with a purpose, honoring our military by giving back.

What’s more, we have the honor of serving those who serve, as we offer our best pricing on 5G Unlimited plans and partner with the Wounded Warrior Project to support the military and their families all year round.

As a former lieutenant of the French military, I know firsthand the sacrifices our military families make for all of us to enjoy the freedoms we have today. My heartfelt thanks go out to all of our active military and veterans for their service to our nation. Verizon is stronger because of you.

Reflecting on the importance of gratitude, especially towards those who serve, reminds me of Aristotle’s belief in the value of recognizing and honoring courage. This month, as we highlight the sacrifices of our military, let’s carry this appreciation into every month, nurturing a culture of continuous support and recognition. 🌟 #Courage #Appreciation #SupportVeterans
