Remembering All Who Fought for Freedom

As we prepare to gather for Memorial Day 2024, we are called to reflect on the immense sacrifices made to protect the liberties we hold dear. While the day is traditionally focused on honoring those who served in uniform, let’s widen our gaze and recognize the vital roles and sacrifices Americans from all walks of life have played in securing and expanding freedom throughout our nation's history.

From the battlefields to the Homefront, men and women have answered the call to defend America. We rightly lift up the stories of young service members, in the prime of their lives, who made the ultimate sacrifice. Their valor and commitment deserve our deepest gratitude and remembrance. We owe them a debt that can never be fully repaid.

As we gather this Memorial Day, let us honor all who have fought and bled for our liberty. It is a great and mighty nation that can gather to a shared commitment, to the ideals of a democracy that binds us together.

For their struggles, their pain, and their ultimate victory, a victory for all of humanity – our fallen are the history of America itself. In remembering them, we keep the flame of freedom burning bright.
